Borough picked up their first win at Petersham Lane for eight years, but despite controlling the first half and turning around two goals in front at the break they were unable to relax as the Bulls pulled a goal back early in the second half following a debatable penalty decision and after Rodrigo Pons was sent off for a second bookable offence the Hornets had to play the final 25 minutes with ten men before sealing the win.

Borough started brightly and Alex Grimason forced a save from the home keeper on 6 minutes after being sent through by Ross Milles, while a minute later James Pinder broke down the left and cut inside before seeing his shot tipped over the bar and from the resulting corner Martin Sault's near post drive was cleared off the line.

Holt's first chance came on 12 minutes when former Hornet Keith Middleton got behind the Borough back line and lifted his shot past the advancing Dan Burton, but the ball dropped narrowly wide.

However Borough continued to create the majority of chances and on 15 minutes Salte battled to claim a high ball into the area before laying it back to Mills whose shot first time shot cleared the bar while five minutes later Daryl Williams did well to latch onto a back pass wide on the right and he squeezed his shot past the keeper, but narrowly wide.

It was therefore no surprise when Borough took the lead on 23 minutes when Salte sent a finely weighted forward pass into the path of Pinder who steered a low angled drive into the bottom left hand corner.

However from the restart Holt produced a strong five minute spell as they looked to find an immediate response, creating a chance for Middleton whose low shot was diverted past the post by Burton which was followed up minutes later by another chance which went narrowly wide.

However Borough weathered the storm and began to exert control again and on 29 minutes a good passing move down the left by Pinder and Paul Honeybun sent Grimason into space and his low cross picked out Mills, but the final shot went wide. A minute later Pinder sent in a shot from wide on the right which stung the keepers hands while another Pinder shot just cleared the bar after being teed up by Pons.

With three minutes of the half remaining, Borough doubled their lead when Pinder stole in front of the home keeper to steer a stooping header goalwards, and although a defender got back to attempt a clearance, he was only able to help the ball over the line..

Half Time 0-2

Holt came out after the break and immediately pushed forward looking for a way back, but the Borough defence looked solid against the onslaught until the 57th minute when Dan Burton's attempt to punch away a cross under pressure resulted in the referee pointing to the penalty spot for a foul only he appeared to see on a home forward and the spot kick was duly dispatched.

Worse was to come for Borough on 64 minutes when Pons got in the way of a quickly taken free kick at close range which earned him his second booking, the first coming following an innocuous incident in the first half, and Borough were down to ten men.

There followed a difficult period for the Hornets as they looked to re-organise while the home side sensed the opportunity to get themselves back in the game, but although the Borough defence looked stretched at times Holt struggled to get a shot on target with Burton equal to any chances which came his way.

As the half continued, Borough began to settle to their task and the whole team worked well together to defend their position and begin to put some pressure back on the home back line. With 15 minutes remaining, Borough brought on Anthony Winders and Steve Tricky to provide some fresh legs and although Holt continued to carve out chances, the best seeing a close range header clear the bar, Borough also created an opportunity to finish off their opponents inside the last five minutes when Pinder sent in a deep cross from the left which picked out Winders at the far post, but his shot on the volley went wide. However with Holt running out of steam in the final minutes, Borough held the line well in the gathering gloom to secure a deserved victory.
