Premier League
Following their two legged encounter in the League Cup earlier in the month, Borough faced Swanage again, this time for their first meeting in the league programme this term, and with both sides still harbouring an outside chance of the title, it was the Hornets who claimed victory to end a run of five straight league victories by the Swans. With Alex Grimason unavailable, Sean Gallagher made his debut for Borough at right back, while Rodrigo Pons returned to the starting line up, after an extended trip home to Argentina. Borough though had the worst possible start, when in only the second minute the home defence were left static as former striker Jamie Holland latched onto a through ball before neatly lifting his shot over the advancing Dan Burton to give the Swans an early lead. 0-1. But Swanage had the crossbar to thank for maintaining their lead on eight minutes when Joe Toghill swung in a right wing corner which visiting keeper Jimmy Hollywood punched onto the bar, while a close range shot from the rebound went over. The Swans themselves went close from a corner on 13 minutes with the final header going narrowly over, but back came Borough three minutes later and the visiting defence were forced to scramble a close range effort from Pons past the post and from the resulting corner Toghill sent in another dangerous centre which forced a defender to head over his own bar. However a couple of incidents saw the game flare up as first Gallagher was the victim of a nasty off the ball challenge and seconds later as a cross was floated into the visitor's area, Martin Sault was struck in the face by Swans Jamie Beale, which resulted in an immediate retaliation, and after a lengthy treatment to the Borough midfielder in an attempt to stem the blood, the referee gave both players a straight red card. It took some time for the game to settle down and five minutes before the break, Holland broke through the Borough defence again, but this time Burton was out quickly to make a telling challenge which saw the ball ricochet away to safety, while at the other end Kenny Strong saw an effort cleared off the line. But immediately before the break Borough drew level after Strong won the ball in midfield and it was quickly fed through to James Pinder whose pace took him clear of the Swanage defence and he deftly lobbed the advancing Hollywood. 1-1. Half Time 1-1. It was Borough's turn to make an early impact as just three minutes after the restart they took the lead when Hollywood's weak free kick was sent back towards the Swanage goal and Toghill won a challenge for the ball with the Swans keeper outside the area before steering his shot into the empty net from 20 yards out. 2-1. The game moved into a midfield battle with few chances at either end until the 63rd minute when Pinder carved out some space on the edge of the area, but his final shot cannoned off the keepers legs. Borough began to ratchet up the pressure, with Lee Thomas looking dangerous when he came off the bench and it was no surprise when the Hornets increased their lead on 79 minutes when Toghil sent in a low corner from the left which found its way to Strong on the edge of the 6-yard box who hammered the ball home for his second goal of the season. 3-1. With the Swans defence now under significant pressure it looked likely that Borough would increase their lead and on 85 minutes Thomas went on a superb run down the right, beating a defender before cutting inside, but Hollywood came out of his goal to get an important touch which took the ball away from the Borough forward as he looked ready to slide his shot home. And as the game moved into injury time, Pons lobbed Hollywood from 15 yards out, but the ball dropped just over the bar. Deep in injury time Swanage pulled a goal back when Jacob Harrop curled in a long range effort, which crept just inside the right hand post, giving Borough supporters a few anxious minutes before the referee finally blew for full time. 3-2.
