Borough put their poor first leg performance behind them to deliver the perfect response against the league's form side to end a run of eight straight wins for the Swans and overturn a single goal deficit from the first leg to progress into the semi-finals of the league cup for the first time in four seasons.

Not surprisingly with former manager Jason Phillips bringing his Swanage side to the Moor for the first time, the game was strongly combative without ever looking likely to flare out of control. After playing in the centre of defence for the last two months, Ross Mills returned to the forward line to provide the physical presence up front which was lacking at Days Park, while Lee Rockingham made his home debut for Borough between the sticks and Kieran Mulvey and Mariusz Iglewski were drafted into the starting line up.

The Swans had squandered a number of chances on the first leg and they looked to have continued in the same vein after only five minutes when Aaron Corby latched onto a cross driven in from the right, but steered the ball over with just the keeper to beat.

With the Swans having the best of the opening exchanges Alan Marsh came close on 12 minutes with a dipping effort which just cleared the crossbar. However it was Borough who took the lead two minutes later when Mills headed a cross back to James Pinder who volllyed in a thunderous drive from 10 yards out. 1-0 (Agg 1-1).

Borough's celebrations though were short lived as within a minute, Swanage were level after a defensive mix-up between Rockingham and a home defender saw a headed back pass loop over the Borough keeper and drop into the net for an own goal. 1-1 (Agg 1-2).

Further Swanage pressure saw former Borough forward Jamie Holland send a teasing low ball across the Borough goal mouth and a visiting forward just failed to steer the ball home by the left hand post, while at the other end Iglewski was denied at point blank range by Swans keeper Jimmy Hollywood on 28 minutes as he looked to steer home a cross driven in from the right.

Into the final 15 minutes of the half, Borough began to gain the upper hand and Kenny Strong went close with a header from a free kick which narrowly cleared the bar. But the Hornets went in front again to put the tie back on an even keel on 38 minutes when Pinder made a suberb jinking run down the right to put him clear of the close attention of two defenders, before getting to the by-line and whipping in a shin high cross which Martin Sault diverted home from 5 yards out. 2-1 (Agg 2-2).

Before the break Borough came close to opening up an aggregate lead when Mulvey found himself in space on the left hand side of the area, but his final shot was charged down by a defender.

Half Time 2-1 (Agg 2-2).

Borough continued to control the game for the first 20 minutes after the restart and Strong just failed to steer a long throw from Mulvey on target while Pinder made another powerful drive down the right but he just failed to squeeze the ball between two visiting defenders with Sault and Mills in position to tuck the ball home. Mulvey also came close as he latched on to a deep cross from the left but his first time shot was wide.

However against the run of play Swanage put themselves back in the driving seat on 67 minutes as a ball was fed through to the impressive Jacob Harrop down the right and his pace gave him the space to cut inside and convert with a low angled shot which Rockingham got a hand to, but couldn't keep out. 2-2 (Agg 2-3).

Borough made a double substitution, bringing on strikers Lee Thomas and Joe Toghill as the Hornets threw bodies forward looking for a way back. And they came close to getting back into the tie as Strong was only denied at close range by a superb reactive tip over from Hollywood as he latched onto a high ball into the area.

But the Swans came close to sealing victory on 84 minutes when Harrop lead a break away down the left, but Rockingham did well to divert the final shot past the post.

And that save proved crucial a minute later when Toghill battled to win the ball on the left touchline before centring to Thomas midway inside the Swans half, and he held the ball well before feeding Sault, whose strong run down the right saw him run clear of the visiting back line before firing home from just inside the area. 3-2 (Agg 3-3).

With Swanage pushing forward Rockingham made another fine block, with Salte on hand to clear the loose ball, but on the stroke of 90 minutes Mills latched onto a teasing forward pass and managed to steer the ball under the body of the advancing Hollywood which crept just inside the right hand post, to give Borough, for the first time, the two goal lead they required to go through. 4-2 (Agg 4-3).

With the referee playing an extended period of stoppage time despite neither physio being required throughout the game, Borough looked to play down the clock, while the Swans were packing the forward line looking for a way back. But in the 6th minute of time added on, a break away by the Hornets sent Iglewski through on goal and as he ran into the area a defender got across to upend him, leaving Sault to convert the resulting penalty via the crossbar to complete his first Borough hat trick and seal the tie. 5-2 (Agg 5-3).
