The league's two remaining unbeaten clubs met an Alvington Lane and it was the home side who maintained their record although Borough can feel the final scoreline flattered their hosts as the Hornets battled well after twice conceeding a two goal deficit before Westlands took advantage to increase their lead in injury time as Hornets pressed forward looking for a way back.

Borough carved out the first clear chance on four minutes when Ross Mills did well to intercept a Steve Tricky left wing cross at full stretch but O'Conner in the home goal got out quickly to beat Mills to the loose ball. However it was the home side who took the lead on 12 minutes when Jack Williams converted a left wing corner with a fierce header at the far post.

On 15 minutes Borough cam close when James Pinder battled down the right before sending in a low cross to Paul Honeybun whose first time drive went narrowly wide. But Borough found themselves two goals down on 24 minutes when Mike Rousell went down under a challenge from Wayne Crutcher in the area and the Westland forward stepped up to convert the resulting penalty himself.

On the half hour Dan Burton was in action, getting down smartly to collect a low drive and he denied another goal attempt on 36 minutes, diving to his right to collect a downward header.

Borough gave themselves a lifeline three minutes before the break when a clearance from the back picked out Lee Diaper who sent Pinder through the middle and he finished with a low drive past O’Connor. And the Hornets came close to equalising a minute later when a Honeybun cross from the right picked out Mills, whose diving header went narrowly wide.

Half Time 2-1.

Four minutes after the break Borough created another chance to draw level when Pinder broke down the right before centring to Mills who laid the ball across the area to Honeybun but his final shot flashed narrowly over.

However against the run of play Borough found themselves further behind on 55 minutes when a through ball picked out Williams in the area and he lifted his shot over the advancing Burton.

Borough though kept battling as they looked to find a way back and on 67 minutes substitute Simon Landers sent Pinder through the left channel but his shot from a tight angle was collected by O’Conner.

With Borough playing the more positive football, Westland’s were content to defend and conceded a succession of free kicks but the closest the Hornets came was on 75 minutes when Honeybun’s quickly taken effort from the edge of the area saw O’Conner scramble across his goal to push the ball onto his left hand post and with Landers bearing down he managed to recover to smother the rebound.

Borough’s final chance to get back into the game came on 89 minutes when Pinder again drove down the left before centring to Landers running in through the middle but he was unable to maintain his balance and the shot went over.

And with the Hornets pushing forward in numbers they were undone deep in injury time when a quick Westland’s counter attack sent Richard Proctor clear down the left and he finished with a smart dipping shot to seal victory.
