Dorset Premier League
Saturday 29th August 2009

Despite the Hornets turning around after 45 mins with a well deserved lead, home pressure from a very experienced Chickerill side, helped by a stiff wind at their backs, resulted in a home win at Cranbrook Road for the Chickens.

The first half kicked off with The Borough attacking the Preston end with the home side having the best of the possessions over the first 10 mins. Poole then started to play some good passing football on an excellent pitch culminating in a corner on 17 mins being won on the right. Toghill used the wind to his advantage and curled a ball which evaded the gloveman only to be headed off the line from the defender stationed at the far post.

On 23 mins Borough took a deserved lead when a Chickerell player was dispossessed in midfield the ball found its way to Balinki who fed Toghill, who rode a challenge from a defender and shot from around the ‘D’ low to the left of the outstretched arm from the keeper. 0-1.

Following the goal most exchanges were in midfield, with efforts on goal from both teams being long range or off target.

The Hornets could have increased their lead when on 40 mins as quick thinking from Balinki intercepted a back pass on the rigt and shot for goal. The Chickerell keeper saved well from 10 yards and did even better to save again from a follow up shot from Allen before he danger was cleared.

Half Time 0-1

The second half saw Chickerell come out fired up and put Borough under intense pressure dictating midfied and showing a greater level of fitness.

The Borough defence held out well to the onslaught, and were helped by poor finishing with a Chickerell forward missing a free header on 49 mins, Malara saving well when faced with a one on one on 52 mins and a forward shooting wide when through against the keeper on 54 mins followed by another free header going begging on 65 mins.

Borough did create a few opportunities on the break, the best of these on 70 mins with a corner on the left, which was not cleared and was headed back in for Balinki who cleverly produced an overhead kick which was well saved by the Chickerell gloveman.

On 75mins the Chickens drew level when a loose ball was won by a home player, who fed it to a Ross Doige. He evaded 2 tackles on a mazy run before slotting home with a shot from just inside the area. 1-1.

Borough defended their position against attacks from the home team until the 83 minute when Malara collected a ball when under no pressure on the right hand side of his box but due to a misjudgement he handled the ball outside the area. The resultant free kick was fired in and after a melee in the box Andy Hall fired the loose home 2-1.

The Hornets attempted to push players forward for an equaliser whilst continuning to defend well. On 86 minutes, Grimason appeared to have been fouled prior to a infridgement by him, but the free kick was given Chickerell's way and the resulting cross into the area from the left was not cleared by the Borough defence and Josh Evans took advantage to make the game safe. 3-1
