Premier League Borough fell to their first home league defeat since February 2008 after Richard Marshallsay netted a late winner to give the Chickens all three points and register the double against their title rivals. After going behind in the first half, Borough looked to have snatched at leasr a share of the spoils when James Pinder having cancelled out Warren Whites first-half effort with a strike 10 minutes from time. However, Marshallsay powered the ball home in the final minutes to seal the Chickens fifth successive league triumph and leapfrog the Hornets in the league table. Chickens Manager Brendon King described himself as being over the moon at the final whistle and paid tribute to the character his players demonstrated in grabbing a last-gasp winner. He told the Echo: It was a good win and a good game of football on a very heavy pitch. By the time we scored our first goal we could have been 3-0 up, but Poole came back into the match, put us under a lot of pressure and deserved their goal. I thought we were going to have to hold out after we conceded, but we showed a never-say-die attitude to go up the other end and win the game. Considering we hadnt played for a while Im over the moon and its a massive result for us. You have to show character and we have it in abundance. Dan Welch was outstanding at the back, as was Scott Oliver. All the boys put in a great shift. Jakub Malara in the home goal was called into action several times before White capped off a move involving Ross Doidge, Andy Hall and Nick Etherington with half an hour gone. Ashley Weeks pulled off a tremendous save to keep his sides slender lead intact but it was Chickerell who dominated without being able to unearth a second goal. Borough capitalised on their opponents profligacy and looked to have nicked a point when substitute Pinder finished well in the closing minutes. But more drama was to unfold and a free-kick by Doidge found Marshallsay, who skipped past one defender before emphatically smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
