Premier League
Borough recorded their highest ever Dorset Premier League victory thanks to a ruthless performance at Penny's Lane illustrated by the fact that the Cranes man of the match was keeper Andy Loader who made some superb stops to deny the Hornets an even bigger victory. The Hornets were straight out of the blocks as within seconds Joe Toghill was upended as he cut across the edge of the area and Dominic Allen picked his spot with the resulting free kick, threading a low drive past the wall and just inside the left hand upright to leave Loader flat footed. 0-1. And a minute later Borough stunned the home side with a second goal as initially Loader did well to block a close range effort from James Pinder but the ball was fed back into the area and this time Pinder made no mistake to blast home from 10 yards out. 0-2. Continued Borough pressure saw Bradely Asagba denied by Loader after being picked out in the area by a cross field pass from Joe Toghil, as the resulting lob destined for the top corner was tipped over the bar by the Cranes gloveman. Cranborne's first chance came on 14 minutes when Jakub Malara was forced to divert a long range effort over the bar, however the traffic was still mainly one way and Borough increased their lead on 20 minutes when Toghill sent in a low corner from the left which was converted at the far post by a stooping header from Max Wilcox. 0-3. After 26 minutes Borough were four up when Steve Tricky sent in a perfectly weighted cross from the left and Wilcox stationed near the penalty spot rose ahead of the home centre half to convert with a firm header. 0-4 A minute later Loader made a fine save to parry a thunderous drive from Togill, however Cranborne pulled a goal back from the penalty spot on 29 minutes after John Bates was adjudged to have tripped a home forward as he cut into the area from wide on the flank. 1-4. Borough finished the half with a flurry, but although Allen, Pinder and Asagba all had chances, they were unable to increase the lead before the break. Half Time 1-4 Borough continued the pressure after the break and both Allen and Pinder were denied by Loader before the Hornets increased their lead on 53 minutes following some great pass and move football which carved out the space for Pinder to burst into the area before squaring to Allen who stroked the ball home. 1-5. On 61 minutes a battling run from Wilcox saw him get to the left by-line before sending in a low cross which Toghill got on the end of, but his shot was straight at Loader, while another chance went begging on 67 minutes when a Pinder right wing cross was headed across the area by Tricky, and Wilcox steered a shot narrowly wide from close range. However Borough collected their sixth goal on 72 minutes when a scramble in the Cranborne area saw the ball fall to John Bates by the left hand post and he slammed his shot home from a couple of yards out. 1-6. Borough were now playing some great passing football and the chances kept coming with Ross Mills, Adam Watson and Pinder all denied by Loader. However within two minutes of full time Loader could only parry a long range effort from Allen and Watson was on hand to tuck home the loose ball. 1-7. And almost straight from the restart Pinder intercepted a poor pass across the Cranborne defence before sending Sean Gallagher through on goal and he lifted the ball past Loader to complete the Hornets record scoreline 1-8. |
