As Borough celebrated their 10th anniversary, their nearest neighbours nearly spoilt the party as a first half goal saw the Hammers turn around in the lead, and despite dominating the second half, it took a Joe Toghill penalty in stoppage time to give the Hornets a share of the points.

Borough started brightly and should have opened the scoring on 5 minutes when Lukasz Balinski was sent clear through on goal but Hammers keeper Ben Gould was out quickly to block the resulting low drive with his legs.

Another golden opportunity for Borough came on 16 minutes when Dominic Allen cut across the area, taking the ball past Gould, but a defender wason hand to block the final shot.

Hamworthy came close with their first clear chance on 21 minutes when Jakub Malara was forced to make a fine save, palming a blistering shot from Gary Clarke past the post, while the Hornets were fortunate to see a near post glancing header from the resulting left wing corner flash past the far upright.

And Borough were to rue their early missed opportunities as the Hammers took the lead on 24 minutes when Malara was deceived by the flight of a long range effort and could only parry the shot, leaving Matt White the task of tucking home the loose ball. 0-1.

Sustained Borough pressure in the final 10 minutes of the half saw Allen pick out Toghill with an angled ball into the area but his close range effort by the left hand post was blocked on the line, while Allen saw a blistering shot from 25 yards out cannon down off the crossbar before bouncing to safety.

On the stroke of half time a great cross field pass from Allen near the halfway line gave Matrin Sault a clear run on goal, but with Gould advancing he lifted his shot over the bar.

Half Time 0-1.

Borough continued to take the game to their opponents after the break and debutant Jesse Hodgson got behind the visiting defence on 55 minutes but his attempt to lob the keeper saw Gould stretch well to collect the ball.

The Hornets however had little more to show for the majority of possession until the 70th minute when Toghill picked out Sault in the area, but his shot on the turn went narrowly over. A minute later James Pinder had the ball in the back of the net after stabbing home a low cross from the left, but it was ruled out for offside.

With time running out, Borough upped the tempo while the Hammers packed their defence as they looked to hold out. Within three minutes of coming on, Sean Gallagher headed home a Allen free kick, but again the linesman had spotted a player offside.

As the game moved onto stoppage time Pinder set off on a determined run down the right and despite the efforts of Darren Orchard to pull him back he cut into the area, but went down under a crude tackle, and on the linesman signal a penalty was awarded, which Toghill stepped up to hammer home. 1-1.

Borough still pushed forward looking for a winner and chances came when Gould did well to collect a Pinder strike low down while a Gallagher shot from the right went narrowly over.
