Borough again failed to fire on all cylinders, with Parley creating the best of the first half chances, but the Hornets stepped up a gear after the break and scored two goals in seven minutes to seal victory in the first senior meeting between the two clubs.

Jakub Malara returned from injury to take up his place between the sticks for Borough while former Hornets striker Bradley Asagba took a place on the bench after re-signing from Cobham.

Joe Toghill carved out an early chance for Borough on 5 minutes collecting the ball on the edge of the area before firing in a shot on the turn which went wide, while on 13 minutes Dominic Allen saw a close range effort ricochet off a defender and the home keeper was able to collect.

However Malara had to be on his toes on 15 minutes as a home forward intercepted a defensive pass across the Borough area and fired in a first time shot which the Hornets keeper did well to palm away.

Borough failed to test the home keeper again on 18 minutes when Max Wilcox was teed up by Sean Gallagher, but saw his 25 yard effort clear the bar, but two minutes later Parley created a similar chance which forced Malara to make another fine block at full stretch.

A good three man move from Parley on 29 minutes opened up the Borough defence giving their striker a clear shot on goal, but the ball went over, while Borough’s best chance of the half came on 39 minutes when Phil Staples got his head to a throw to flick on to Allen whose flying volley went narrowly over.

However the home side could have taken the lead before the break when a left wing cross was met at the far post with a strong downward which went just the wrong side of the upright.

Half Time 0-0

Borough looked more purposeful after the break and only the woodwork denied them breaking the deadlock on 53 minutes when Toghill latched onto a through ball down the right before cutting inside and unleashing a powerful drive which cannoned off the bar.

However two minutes later Borough had to survive a goal mouth scramble which only ended when John Bates cleared the ball over his own crossbar.

Borough were forced to replace Steve Tricky on 64 minutes after he was victim of a crude over the top challenge which resulted in hospital treatment for a badly gashed shin. James Pinder came on as part of a double substitution and within 60 seconds had given Borough the lead as he latched onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Allen down the right channel before outpacing the defence and firing home from just inside the area. 0-1.

Asagba was sent on with 20 minutes remaining and also caused immediate problems for Parley as he battled well to win a long ball forward against two defenders before being pulled back as he entered the area, although he was awarded only a free kick on the edge of the box. However Allen made any claims for a penalty academic as he rifled in a low free kick through the wall which the home keeper appeared to have got to, but the ball slipped through his hands and over the line. 0-2.

To their credit, Parley continued to push forward looking for a way back, but Borough came close to sealing the game on 78 minutes, with the home keeper making amends for his earlier error by getting across smartly to smother a downward header from Ross Mills by his left hand post.

And with 5 minutes remaining, a final Borough chance saw Asagba make a powerful run into the area but again the home keeper was equal to the final shot to divert it wide.
