With both teams creating enough second half chances to seal victory, it took a Joe Toghill injury time strike to separate the sides in a hard fought and entertaining encounter at Churchill Close.

Borough enjoyed the best of the early exchanges and came close after only 4 minutes when Toghill cut inside from wide on the left before pulling the ball back to Martin Warren who was unable to get a clean shot on target with Toghill following through shooting straight at former Borough keeper Andy Knights in the home goal.

On 11 minutes Knights denied his former club with a fine reaction save, parrying a sharp shot on the half volley from Dominic Allen past the post. Two minutes later Warren saw a low drive blocked by Knights and although first to the rebound, he could only put his second shot wide.

Further Borough chances fell to Lukasz Balinski, who did well to win the ball off a defender in the area before seeing his shot go narrowly wide, while a mazy run from Allen saw him cut in from the right and take on and beat a number of defenders before his final drive from the edge of the area went over.

The target continued to allude Borough as both Martin Sault and Balinski saw chances go over, and the Hornets were nearly punished on 39 minutes when a Sturminster free kick was met with a powerful header by the right hand post by Jakub Malara was over quickly to palm the ball wide.

Half-time 0-0

Within three minutes of the restart Borough finally broke the deadlock, when a cross from the left was met with a powerful close range header from Sault. 0-1.

Two minutes later Borough nearly doubled their lead when Alex Grimason sent in a low drive from 25 yards out, which left Knights rooted to the spot as it cannoned off the post. Sturminster however had a golden opportunity to equalise on 56 minutes as a cross into the area picked out a home striker unmarked, but he headed over with the goal at his mercy.

The game was end to end as first Knights denied Allen at point blank range while Malara made a superb reaction save to punch away a thunderous drive from the edge of the area. But Sturminster drew level on 67 minutes when a quickly taken free kick sent a striker clear through on goal and he slotted the ball under the dive of the advancing Malara. 1-1.

Both sides pushed forward looking for the winner and it appeared the home side were more likely to break the deadlock in the final minutes as first former Hornet's striker Luke Stone finished off a well worked move with a shot which went narrowly over, while Dan Molyneaux made an excellent defensive header to cut out a dangerous cross.

However a minute into stoppage time Toghill collected the ball on the left hand edge of the area and carved out enough space to send in a low drive which crept just inside the right hand post. 1-2.
