Borough (3)7 Dorset County League Division 1 Saturday 23rd October Scorers :Scott Smith 24,39,79; Alan Fooks 35,63; James Russell 54,62 Borough were again unable to field a full-strength side with Denty, Buckfield and Thompson unavailable. Anthony Staddon and Alex Gunn made their debuts and Borough attacked from the kick-off with Holdroyd, Fooks and Staddon all going close. The breakthrough came on 24 minutes when Alex Gunn went down the right, neatly beat his man and crossed for the diminutive Scott Smith to glance a header home. Beaminster then came back and Dan Burton had to palm away a high cross under pressure. Boroughs second goal was almost a carbon copy of the first. This time Dan Cockwell provided a perfect cross for Alan Fooks to head past the keeper on 35 minutes. The third goal came four minutes later when a James Russell corner was helped on by Fooks for Smith to score from close range. Smith nearly completed his hat-trick before half-time, but after good work by Whitfield, his shot was saved by the Beaminster keeper. HT 0-3 Beaminster took the game to Poole at the start of the second half as they battled to get a goal back. However Borough notched another when James Russell scored with a quick free-kick after 54 minutes. Beaminster finally got the goal they deserved when a rebound fell to their full-back whose shot went in despite an attempt by Gunn to keep the ball out with his hands. Gunn was booked for his efforts and was probably lucky that the ball ended in the net else he may have been given the red card. It was not long before Borough extended their lead, another free-kick by James Russell that took a wicked deflection and then a minute later Alan Fooks neatly scored at the near post. Alex Gunn was denied the goal his performance deserved when his shot was headed off the line, but 10 minutes from time Scott Smith completed his hat-trick when he volleyed in a Paul Morrell long throw. Poole Borough : Dan Burton, Dan Cockwell, Tony Whitfield (Matt Burton 72), Ross Gulliver, Paul Morrell, Dave Holdroyd, Anthony Staddon, James Russell, Scott Smith, Alan Fooks, Alex Gunn.
