Borough 6 Dorset County League Division 1 Wednesday 25th August Scorers : Smith 13 mins; Russell 15 & 18 mins (1 pen); Fooks 50 & 69 mins; Denty 68 mins. A dominating performance by Borough, which could have been rewarded with more goals in their first ever competitive fixture which drew a good crowd of the committed and curious. They didn't have long to wait to see the quality of the side in Gold and Black, and a shot from Alan Fooks after 10 mins struck the bar before on 13 mins Scott Smith made history, finding himself one on one with the keeper and deftly chipping the ball which dropped under the cross bar to make it 1-0. Blandford almost went level from the re-start when their striker placed both an initial shot and rebound onto the post. Jamie Russell, however, put the game firmly under Poole's control scoring their 2nd goal after 15 mins and converting a penalty on 18 mins following a Paul Morrell shot which was handled on the line. Poole continued to control the game with Paul Morrell creating space for the forwards with some superb through balls, and Ben Thompson causing problems when running at the defence, but no further chances were converted before the break. HT - 3-0 Borough stepped up a gear in the second half, and on 47 mins following a mazey run from Thompson, his rebounded shot fell to Fooks whose shot was well saved. Fooks made no mistake 3 mins later tucking the ball away into an empty net, after Smith broke the offside trap, drew the keeper and unselfishly knocked the ball across to his partner. Poole's midfield now dominated proceedings with Thompson, Buckfield, Russell and Holdroyd all able to carry the ball forward and create chances. On 68 mins, following a cleared corner, Pete Morrell drove in an angled cross, which Blandford failed to clear, and Ron Denty was able to bundle the ball home. Paul Morrell then combined with his brother a minute later lifting a cross from the left into the area which Pete headed across the 6 yard box for Fooks to nod in. Further chances were created as Fooks shot narrowly wide and a Freeman shot was well saved following through balls from Paul Morrell and Winston Buckfield respectively. In between Blandford had a couple of chances, but failed to penetrate a well marshalled defence. Buckfield almost finished the game with a flourish, as on 88 mins following a powerful run from the halfway line, he got into the box, only for the Blandford keeper again to save well. Poole Borough: Burton, Denty, Whitfield, Pete Morrell, Paul Morrell, Buckfield, Holdroyd, Russell (Freeman 84), Smith (Bancroft 68), Alan Fooks, Thompson (Atkins 70).
