Hamworthy United Reserves (0)0 Dorset County League Division 1 Saturday 4th December Scorers : Fooks 30 Borough created a hat-full of chances in a free flowing game affected by a strong wind blowing across the pitch. The fact that they were only able to score the single goal caused a degree of pressure as the young Hamworthy side scented an opportunity of stealing a point each time they broke from defence. The first 20 minutes were even as both sides struggled to adapt to the conditions. Borough could have gone ahead after 12 minutes when they were unable to convert a James Russell corner as the ball bounced around the goal mouth. Hamworthy unsuccessfully appealed for a penalty on 19 minutes when Gary Fooks went down in the box. As the half went on, Poole began to take control, and Ron Denty was unlucky to see his header fly just wide from a Paul Morrell free kick. The contnued pressure resulted in Borough taking the lead on 30 minutes when Russells through ball split the defence and Alan Fooks was able to take the ball round the keeper before slotting it home. Mike Satterley had two good chances to increase the score, on 38 minutes Russell set him up in the area but he put the ball just wide, and 2 minutes later Dave Holdroyd knocked the ball into the box, but his point blank shoot was well saved by the keeper. Dan Cockwell deserved to score on 44 minutes when he set off on a superb solo run from his own half, cut inside from the wing into the 18 yard box, took the ball past the keeper, but saw his shot deflected up and off the bar. Denty also hit the woodwork a minute later, when he unleashed a powerful header from a right wing cross. HT 1-0 Borough continued to apply the pressure in the second half, and Satterley was unfortunate not to get on the end of a sharp cross from Chris Collinge after he stole the ball off of Gary Fooks. Hamworthy continued to break quickly from defence, but Dan Burton commanded his area well, when required to act. On 57 minutes Cockwell floated over a cross which Holdroyd headed low and on target, but the keeper got down well to touch the ball past the post., injuring himself in the process and resulting in him having to go off. The stand in keeper did well with his first test when he tipped a Cockwell drive over, but could only watch on 62 minutes as a Fooks free kick came back off the underside of the bar. Fooks was in action again 2 minutes later when he headed the ball down to Collinge, but,off balance, his shot spooned over the bar. The woodwork came to the rescue of Hamworthy again on 75 minutes, as a Holdroyd header came off the post. At the other end a breakdown in communication between Denty and Burton from a back header, nearly let the visitors in but the ball was scrambled clear. As the game came to an end Borough had further chances from Winston Buckfield and Russell, but with Hamworthy looking dangerous when they were able to get forward, the final whistle was welcomed by the home supporters.
