(0)0, Poole Borough (6)9 Dorset County League Division 1 25th March 2000 Scorers: Gunn 1, 87; Buckfield 20; Smith 29, 56; Denty 33; Fooks 36, 45, 59. The first local derby with Lytchett saw Borough dominating proceedings, and they could easily have ended up scoring more goals than they did, but they still chalked up the clubs second highest victory. Playing up a steep slope in the first half, Borough took the lead in only the second minute, when the home sides keeper did well to block a shot by Scott Smith, but Alex Gunn was on hand to fire in the rebound. Alan Fooks had three chances to increase the lead within five minutes as Borough's lightning attacks posed problems for the Lytchett defence, but the first 2 were narrowly off target and the third was pushed past the post by the keeper. After 20 minutes Borough scored their second, as Paul Morrell's left wing pass to Ben Thompson was crossed perfectly to the far post, where Winston Buckfield got in front of 2 defenders to head over the line. The Borough defence coped easily with and Lytchett forays forward, and it took the home team 23 minutes to force their first corner. At the other end Smith had missed a good chance on 28 minutes, but a minute later he was put through the middle and made no mistake knocking the ball past the keeper and just inside the left post. Borough's fourth goal came shortly after as Ron Denty rose unmarked to head home a Buckfield left wing cross. It fell to Alan Fooks to score Borough's 100th league goal of the season on 36 minutes, as he met a low Smith cross with a diving header. There was still time for another goal just before half-time as a Thompson shot could only be pushed up into the air by the keeper, and Fooks was on hand to bundle the ball home. HT 0-6 Borough found attacking down the slope more of a problem as the ball ran away from them on the greasy surface. A number of chances were created before Morrell collected the ball and sent a perfect ball to Thompson, who cut inside from the right, drew the keeper and unselfishly passed across the box for Smith to score. Alan Fooks collected his hat-trick after 59 minutes when he collected a Gunn pass, took the ball past the keeper and slotted inside the right post. Both teams made changes, and Lytchett created their first real attempt on goal ending with a dipping shot hitting the top of the cross bar. The Lytchett keeper was also in action as he tipped a Thompson free kick over the bar and pushed a Fooks shot past the post. Lytchett had a further attempt towards the end when they beat the offside trap, but Dan Burton narrowed the angle and saved the resulting shot. Dan Cockwell collected the clearance and put an excellent pass forward to Smith who got into the box, but was tackled as he made space for a shot, however the ball fell kindly in front of Gunn who hammered it home. Poole Borough : Dan Burton, Dan Cockwell, Chris Morgan (Lee Atkins 75), Paul Morrell, Ron Denty, Dave Holdroyd, Alex Gunn, Winston Buckfield (Paul Gatley 64), Scott Smith, Alan Fooks, Ben Thompson.
