Alan Fooks - Yet another hat-trick and 49 goals for the season. |
Poole Borough (5)6, Lytchett Red Triangle (0)0 Dorset County League Division 1 26th April 2000 Scorers: Fooks 2, 4, 41; Smith 15; Russell 36; Thompson 52. Borough moved to within one point of runners up position in Division 1 of the Dorset County League in their first season after a convincing victory against local rivals Lytchett Red Triangle. The home side went into a two goal lead within the first four minutes with Alan Fooks netting both. The first came after his shot was deflected into the net off a defender and the goalkeeper and the second when he converted a loose ball following a save from a Scott Smith shot. Poole provided all the pressure, with Lytchett having trouble creating an attack. After having a goal disallowed for offside, Smith scored the third on 15 minutes as the diminutive striker rose on the far post to head in a Ben Thompson cross. The visitors keeper kept the score down with some impressive saves, but could do nothing on 36 minutes when James Russell skipped past two tackles and unleashed a low shot from outside the box into the bottom left hand corner. Fooks completed his hat-trick just before the interval with a tap-in after Smith fed the ball into the box from the left. HT 5-0 Although Borough continued to dominate the second half they added only one further goal to the total, with Smith again the provider, knocking the ball into the path of Thompson who ran into the box before lifting his shot over the advancing keeper. Lytchett improved after the interval and threatened to pull a goal back, but were denied by Borough's keeper Dan Burton twice and when at last beaten Chris Morgan was on hand to clear off the line. Borough had further chances but shots by Pete Morrell and Smith hit the bar and Fooks, attempting to score his 50th goal of the season, had further chances which were either off target or saved by the keeper. Borough are now left with just a draw required at Shaftsbury to secure second spot behind Champions Stourpaine.
