Dorset County League Division 1
19th April 2000

Scorers: Fooks 6, 20, 36, 48; Smith 13, 16, 25; Russell 58, 73; Thompson 68.

Persistent rain on an already soggy pitch made conditions difficult, but with both teams keen to play the fixture, the referee should be praised both for allowing it to go ahead and the way he managed proceedings.

Borough took the lead on 6 minutes when Alan Fooks was put through and coolly knocked the ball past the keeper. The lead was increased by Scott Smith 7 minutes later, converting from the edge of the are after the ball was squared by Jamie Russell.

Continued Borough pressure resulted in Smith scoring again on 16 minutes, tucking the ball into the left hand corner after latching on to a forward pass. Four minutes later a high ball into the box was not successfully cleared by the keeper and Fooks headed the loose ball over the line.

Ben Thompson was causing problems on both wings, and provide Boroughs fifth goal on 25 minutes with a right wing cross which was steered home by Smith. Thompson again was the provider of the final goal of the half, with a long ball from the left to Fooks in the middle of the area who hammered it into the net.

HT 0-6

Poole continued to make control the game and only 3 minutes after the restart Fooks got his head to a cross which the keeper got a hand to, but still saw it drop over the line. Okeford continued to press forward and their best chance came when Pete Morrell had to clear a shot off the line.

With the rain still falling, the water was beginning to collect on the surface, affecting Borough's ability to pass the ball around. Russell, however overcame these problems on 58 minutes when he skipped past 2 defenders in the area and slid the ball past the keeper.

Thompson remained a threat and scored a well deserved goal when he collected the ball on the left wing, cut inside and unleashed an unstoppable drive across the goal and into the bottom right hand corner.

Borough's 10th and final goal came after Russell collected a short corner on the right wing and drove a superb shot past the keeper.
