The First and Last ...

Borough line up for their first ever League game vs Blandford United and Celebrate their League Cup success after victory against Dorchester United.

Season Round Up

When it was first decided to form a new Poole base Football Club, nobody could have dreamed of the success and standing that the club would generate in its first season.

Achieving runners-up position in the League and lifting the League Cup would have been more that enough for anybody. However to take non-league giants Weymouth to a replay in the Dorset Senior Cup, and in most eyes being very unfortunate not to have come away from the second game with a victory, shows have far this club came in only one year.

The League season started with 4 straight victories, but draws against Stourpaine and Chickerell and defeats at the hands of Dorchester Utd and Weymouth Utd in September and October dented the clubs progress, as these were the teams in contention for the title.

Four straight wins in November, including a return victory against Weymouth Utd and a Senior Cup win against Dorset Knob showed an improvement in fortunes and lead up to the first meeting against Weymouth FC at the Wessex Stadium where Borough fully deserved their 1-1 draw. Terrible weather meant that attempts to hold the replay at Wimborne failed and Borough went into the game four weeks later back at the Wessex Stadium without playing a match in between. Alan Fooks put Borough ahead and Jamie Russell should have got a penalty after being tripped in the area, but the home side eventually pressed their advantage and finished 3-1 winners.

Only 3 days later the crunch fixture away to Stourpaine was held and although Borough had the majority of chances the home side won thanks to a long-range shot, which rebounded off the keeper. That game sealed Borough's chances of the title but with only one more defeat and one draw in the last 14 games the runners up spot was well deserved.

The League Cup semi-final victory against Weymouth Utd and the final against Dorchester Utd, both at the Cuthbury, showed that Borough were on their day the best team in the league, but no-one could deny Stourpaine in the end and with only 1 defeat all season were worthy champions.
