Borough secured runners-up spot in emphatic style after dominating proceedings against a Shaftsbury side who were just not allowed into the game.

Alex Gunn and Alan Fooks both had chances early on before Fooks opened the scoring after 7 minutes with his 50th goal of the season, latching on to poor goal kick and returning it past the keeper and into the net.

Pete Morrell and Gunn were combining well on the right to feed the strikers, and after a neat interchange between the two Gunn crossed to the far post where Ben Thompson put his shot just over the bar.

Shaftsbury were defending in numbers but could do nothing to stop Thompson on 16 minutes as he took the ball into the area and squared to Scott Smith to tap in. Smith also collected the next goal when a Pete Morrell free kick slipped out of the keepers hands and the striker was on hand to convert the loose ball.

With the Borough pressure continuing Thompson hit the bar after a superb dribble into the box. Jamie Russell was unfortunate to see his shot cleared off the line and Gunn collected the rebound but his attempt hit the bottom of the post.

The lead was increased just before half time, after a Thompson deep corner found Paul Morrell in space and his lob over the keeper came back off the bar but Fooks was first to the ball and hammered home the rebound.

HT 4-0

Borough continued to dominate every area of the game in the second period to such an extent that Shaftsbury were restricted to just one scoring attempt. Prior to that chance, Smith sent clear on the right, and did well to hold the ball up long enough to allow Thompson time to get into the area and a perfect centre was slotted home.

Pete Morrell increased the tally on 67 minutes with a driven shot from outside the area which the keeper got a hand to, but could not stop it dropping over the line. Not to be out done by his brother, Paul Morrell got his first goal of the season after running onto a ball into the area by Thompson and cracking a shot past the keeper and just inside the far post.

In injury time it was Fooks who completed the scoring, bundling the ball past the keeper after another Paul Morrell shot came off the bar.
