Dorset County League Division 1
16th December 2000

Scorers : Alex Gunn (25), Scott Smith (48, 80), Alan Fooks (75)
Borough Man of The Match : Pete Morrell

A very keenly contested first half saw Borough lead by a single goal at Beaminster. On a very heavy pitch Alex Gunn scored at the far post on 25 minutes after a fine cross from Morgan.

Both teams had strong penalty appeals turned town. Borough’s Scott Smith was unlucky when brought down by the Beaminster keeper as he went to take the ball past him, whilst at the other end Hebdon was adjudged to have tackled cleanly when a Beaminster forward was clear on goal.

Alan Fooks could have put Borough further ahead but his shot was saved, whilst Beaminster missed a chance to equalise when a forward shot over with only Gunn to beat.

HT 0-1

Borough took control in the second half. Scott Smith scored within minutes of the restart and with skipper Peter Morrell marshalling his defence well, Borough keeper Andy Gunn had little to do.

Alan Fooks scored the third goal on 75 minutes with a looping header from Morrell’s cross. Morrell turned provider again 5 minutes later when the Beaminster keeper could not hold his powerful free-kick and Scott Smith was on hand to net from close range.

With five minutes to go Borough were awarded a penalty when Smith was pushed, but Tony White put the spot kick over the bar. Schoolboy Scott Arnold came on as a Borough substitute for the last 10 minutes and made a promising debut.

Borough: Andy Gunn, Cockwell, White, Morrell, Hebdon, Coles, Alex Gunn, Herrington (Holdroyd 60), Smith , Alan Fooks (Scott Arnold 80), Morgan (Gary Fooks 70).
