Borough Man of The Match :
Ben Thompson

Ben Thompson took the opportunity of a blank weekend to make a return in Borough colours and produced an inspired display as the Hornets completed their first win against a strong Chickerell side after 2 draws last season.

Chickerell nearly took the lead in the first minute following a defensive mix up, but Pete Morrell was on hand to intercept the resulting shot.

Andy Gunn had to save a Chickerell header before, on 6 minutes Thompson opened the scoring for Borough with a superb solo effort, picking up the ball on the half-way line and running through the Chickerell defence before slotting the ball past the advancing keeper.

Andy Coles had a shot come back of the post as Borough pushed for a second, and it came after 16 minutes as Thompson went on a diagonal run finishing with a cross from the left by-line and Scott Smith rose superbly to place a downward header out of reach.

Chickerell continued to battle and their best chance ended with a shot just past the post. Alan Fooks hit the bar with a shot from wide on the right, while Coles and Smith were also narrowly off target.

HT 2-0

Within 2 minutes of the restart Borough increased their lead, Thompson again the creator with a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Chris Morgan who ran into the box before sliding the ball in off the far post.

Thompson scored his second five minutes later as he ran through the middle and hit a shot which the keeper got a hand to but couldn't keep out.

The scoring was rounded off with a free kick driven low into the corner by Morrell, but Borough could have scored more as both Thompson and Smith were unfortunate not to score when one on one with the keeper. At the other end Andy Gunn earned his clean sheet with an excellent save from a free kick.
