Dorchester United (0)2, Poole Borough (0)2 Dorset County League Division 1 23rd September 2000 Scorers : Tony White 69 (pen), Scott Smith 85.
Borough lost their 100% record but came back from a 2 goal deficit to remain unbeaten, although the failure to convert numerous first half chances probably cost them the win. As early as the 3rd minute Dave Holdroyd got clear of the defence but was unable to get the ball past the keeper, aggravating his hamstring injury in the process and he had to be substituted. Both Scott Smith and Alan Fooks put headers narrowly wide and Smith also shot over the bar as Borough dominated the first 15 minutes. United though came back, and saw a looping free kick come off the post and also put a shot wide of the target. Borough continued to cause problems with the speed of their attacks down both flanks, but were not able to get on the end of the resulting crosses. Just before the interval Alex Gunn was unfortunate to hit the bar after cutting in from the right and lobbing a shot over the keeper, and Chris Morgan met a Gunn cross with a strong shot which the keeper pushed past the post. HT 0-0 The first exchanges of the second period were even, but on 58 minutes Dorchester took the lead when Borough failed to intercept a right wing cross and Marc Hillier was on hand to tap in at the far post. Borough came back, and the keeper saved well from Pete Morrell and Fooks, but on 65 minutes Dorchester got a second when Mike Hall stole into the box to head in a deep left wing cross. The deficit was reduced just 4 minutes later when Tony White converted a penalty after Scott Smith had been brought down as he ran on to a Pete Morrell through ball. Borough continued to push and the equaliser came with five minutes remaining as Smith latched on to a forward header from Andy Coles and buried the ball into the net. Both sides had opportunities to win the game, Andy Gunn making a point blank save in the Borough goal and in the last minute Smith knocked the ball across the area to Alan Fooks, who made space for his shot but put it agonisingly wide. Borough : Andy Gunn, Dan Cockwell, Danny Herrington (Gulliver 89), Pete Morrell, Tony White, Dave Holdroyd (Thomas 5), Alex Gunn, Andy Coles, Scott Smith, Alan Fooks, Chris Morgan.
