Dorchester YMCA (1) 1, Poole Borough (5) 6. Dorset County League Division 1 7th April 2001 Scorers : Scott Smith 10,
Dan Herrington 12, Alan Fooks 18, Kieron Wall 24, 35, 83. Kieron Wall scored his second hat-trick in a row as Borough provided a display of flowing football to overcome a spirited Dorchester YMCA side, who still find themselves rooted to the bottom of the division. The home side created a chance to open the scoring in the first minute but keeper Andy Gunn scrambled across his line to make a good save. It was Borough, however, who created the majority of the early pressure and they took the lead after 10 minutes when a left wing cross fell to Alan Fooks, whose shot was blocked, and Scott Smith was on hand to convert the rebound. Borough scored their second 2 minutes later as Alex Gunn knocked a superb ball into the path of Dan Herrington, who took it through the defence and past the keeper before slotting home. Dorchester kept pushing forward and forced Andy Gunn to make a point blank save before, on 17 minutes he was beaten by a long-range shot. Borough, however, came straight back and restored the two goal cushion within a minute after Kieron Wall teed up the ball for Fooks at the edge of the area to rifle his shot into the top corner. Wall then picked up two goals in 10 minutes, the first a tap in after the home keeper failed to hold a Pete Morrell quickly taken free kick, and the second with a well-placed shot from outside the box. HT 5-1 The home keeper, who made some superb saves in the first half, have to come off early in the second period after sustaining a leg injury, but Borough were unable to take advantage of the situation despite almost constant pressure. On his first touch after coming on as sub, Chris Morgan had a shot tipped over the bar by the stand in keeper who also saved well from Wall. Alex Gunn failed to keep his shot low enough to convert a Fooks cross but with time running out Borough finally increased the score when Morrell sent over a deep cross from the right and Wall was on hand at the far post to head home. There was still time for the keeper to save again from Matt Smith, but Borough had done enough to warrant the extent of their victory. Poole Borough : Andy Gunn, Sean Hebdon (Chris Morgan 59), Tony White, Pete Morrell, Tommy Heffernan, Kieron Wall, Alex Gunn, Dan Herrington, Tony Diaz, Alan Fooks, Scott Smith (Matt Smith 81). |
