Sturminster Marshall (1)2,
Poole Borough (0)3

Wednesday 16th August
Scorers : Fooks, Buckfield, Coles

Sturminster went two goals up, the first coming in the first half and the second only minutes into the second period following a defensive mix up.

Borough, however, fought there way back and created a number of chances before on 70 minutes Winston Buckfield won the ball on the halfway line and fed it to Gary Fooks who knocked a straight pass through the defence and Alan Fooks ran on and went past the keeper before slotting home.

The scores were levelled 10 minutes later when Mark Thomas put a high cross into the area, and Buckfield met the ball at the far post to volley into the left corner.

Andy Coles won the game for Borough when he ran onto a cross in the box and deftly flicked the ball over the keeper and followed it into the net.

Bisterne (0)0,
Poole Borough (3)7

Saturday12th August
Scorers : Fooks 3, Blenman 3, Smith 2

A much-improved Borough performance saw them dominate proceedings against the Bournemouth League side, and Alan Fooks showed no sign of the injury picked up in midweek as he scored the first two goals. Darren Blenman added to the score with his first for Borough, before the interval.

Scott Smith came on in the second half and bagged himself a brace, and Borough always appeared to have spare man over as they pushed forward. With Danny Harrington covering the left back position, Chris Morgan was free to push up on the wing to good effect. Fooks completed his hat-trick with a further goal, as did Blenman as he picked up two more to complete an excellent display.

Bournemouth Poppies 7
Poole Borough 2

Tuesday 8th August
Scorers : Fooks, Smith

Borough fielded a makeshift defence, with Gary Fooks a centre-half and Alex Gunn right back, and paid the penalty as Poppies cut through their back line. Poppies took the lead after only 2 minutes and by the half hour were four up as Borough struggled to cope with some well-timed runs through the middle of the park.

Alan Fooks pulled on back on 32 minutes, tapping in a low left wing cross from Darren Blenman, but Fooks paid for this with a knock, and he had to go off a minute later. Poppies increased their lead 5 minutes later with a near post header.

HT 5-1

Borough went further behind only a minute after the restart, following a screaming shot from outside the area into the left corner of the net. The visitors then had their best period of the match and after Scott Smith scored with a deft flick over the keeper on 54 minutes, chances fell to Dave Holdroyd, with a shot over the bar, Darren Blenman who had a header kicked off the line, and Andy Coles whose header was saved low down by the keeper.

With 5 minutes remaining, Poppies completed the scoring when their forward converted the loose ball after Andy Gunn could only block a fierce shot.

Poole Borough : Andy Gunn, Gary Fooks, Danny Harrington, Mark Thomas (Paul Glenister 46), Paul Hebdon, Dave Holdroyd, Alex Gunn, Darren Blenman (Lee Atkins 85), Scott Smith, Alan Fooks (Andy Coles 32), Chris Morgan.

Shaftsbury (0)1,
Poole Borough (1)1

Saturday 5th August
Scorers : Fooks

Scott Smith made a welcome return to the Borough side, at the ground they sealed runners up spot in the league 3 months previously. Borough took the game to the Combination side from the start, but were only rewarded with a single headed goal from Alan Fooks to show from their domination.

The second half was more even and Shaftsbury equalised with a long range effort which appeared to take a deflection on its way into the net.

Sturminster Newton Reserves (3)3,
Poole Borough Reserves (0)1

Saturday 29th July
Scorers : Atkins

Immediately following the first team fixture, the Reserves kicked off their first match and not surprisingly came under some pressure as the players took time to get used to each other, Sturminster took the opportunity to take a 3-goal advantage into the interval.

Just as with the first team, the Reserves took stock at half time and came out in the second half a much better team, dominating proceedings at times. They were only able to pull back one goal, from player-manager Lee Atkins, but overall can take some satisfaction from the way they improved as the game went on.

Sturminster Newton (5)5,
Poole Borough (2)3

Saturday 29th July
Scorers : Dave Holdroyd 2, Alex Gunn 1 (Pen)

A visit to a club with excellent new facilities including a covered standing area, perimeter railings and clubhouse, provided with lottery money, provided an insight to Borough of what can be done once a ground has been identified.

On the pitch, Borough did not defend well in the first half, and gave away 3 sloppy goals in the first 25 minutes all caused by the Sturminster forwards latching on to good through balls.

For Borough, Chris Morgan, playing in left midfield had a volley well saved by the keeper and put another shot over the bar. Dave Holdroyd pulled a goal back on 28 minutes, as he stole into the box and headed home a Pete Morrell free kick.

Still though Sturminster were provided with too much space and they scored 2 more goals on 31 and 39 minutes both when their forwards got behind the back line. The arrears were reduced just before half time with another Holdroyd close range from a Morrell cross which gave the keeper no chance.

It was a totally difference Borough performance in the second half, as Winston Buckfield dropped back to centre-half and Paul Glenister coming into midfield, and the visitors dominated for long periods. Glenister hit the post after only 5 minutes of the restart and later Mark Thomas, who had a busy game, saw his shot rebound off the keeper.

On 64 minutes Morgan was brought down in the area and Alex Gunn converted the spot kick. Gunn should have done better 10 minutes later when he intercepted a pass across the area, but shot at the keeper.

Alan Fooks also carved out chances and lobbed just past the post with 15 minutes to go and also hit the post with a shot which subsequently came out to Morgan whose shot was punched away by the keeper.

But for an uncharacteristic first half, Borough would have come away from the game with many plus points and probably would have at least forced a draw.

Poole Borough : Andy Gunn, Dan Cockwell, Ross Gulliver (Tommy Allen 69), Pete Morrell, Winston Buckfield, Richard ??? (Paul Glenister 46), Mark Thomas, Dave Holdroyd, Chris Morgan, Alan Fooks, Alex Gunn.

Stourpaine 1 Poole Borough 1
Tuesday 25th July
Scorer : Lee Atkins

Borough, still missing a number of players from last season, put in a good performance against last seasons Dorset League Champions. It was Poole who took the lead in the first half with a Lee Atkins shot from the left side of the penalty area.

Despite Borough dominating with both Alan and Gary Fooks having a number of chances, it was Stourpaine who got the next goal before half time.

The home side took control early in the second half, but could not incresase their lead, but Borough finished the stronger side despite the fact that Stourpaine were fielding the majority of their side for this sedasons Combination campaign.
