Borough Man of The Match : Alan Fooks

Borough consolidated their position at the top of Division 1 after a comfortable win at Gillingham, in slippery conditions on a soft pitch, with Alan Fooks scoring his 3rd hat trick in as many games.

Alan Fooks opened the scoring after only 3 minutes sliding the ball past the keeper after it was knocked into his path, but Gillingham came back to equalise only a minute later, after their forward beat Pete Morrell in a tackle and ran on to score.

Borough continued to pressure and it was no surprise when Dan Herrington put them back in front with superbly struck shot from outside the box. The game was not all one way however, and Andy Gunn had to make a double save to deny a second equaliser, whilst Tony White also had to clear off the line as the ball was steered in from a corner.

After 33 minutes Borough widened the gap when Gary Fooks challenged for possession in the area against both keeper and defender, and was first to the loose ball to convert. Two minutes later Alan Fooks was on hand by the near post to turn in a low cross from Chris Morgan.

HT 4-1

In the second period Andy Coles put Borough further ahead when he collected a defensive clearance outside the area and neatly lobbed the advancing keeper, but Gillingham continued to look dangerous going forward and pulled a goal back with a long-range effort.

With just over 15 minutes to go, Alan Fooks secured his third goal with great close control in the area, drawing the keeper to fire home, and further chances were created for Coles and Morgan as Borough coasted to victory.

Poole Borough : Andy Gunn, Shane Milne (Mark Thomas 46), Tony White, Pete Morrell, Sean Hebdon, Andy Coles, Dan Cockwell (Ross Gulliver 77), Dan Herrington (Tommy Allen 84), Gary Fooks, Alan Fooks, Chris Morgan.
