Borough Man of The Match : Scott Smith

Borough extended their unbeaten league run and chalked up their 10th league win of the season in the local derby against Hamworthy United Reserves at Upton Rec.

After an even first 20 minutes, Borough stepped up the pressure and Chris Morgan, Alan Fooks and Alex Gunn all saw chances go over the bar while Scott Smith showed superb close control to turn and hit a shot which hit the post. Chris Morgan broke the deadlock on 33 minutes when a long throw from the right was not intercepted as it crossed the penalty area and the winger ran in unmarked to blast home.

Scott Smith came close to increasing the lead 2 minutes later after Alex Gunn headed the ball into his path, but his shot was deflected for a corner, and Fooks also came close as his shot was blocked by the keeper. At the other end Dan Cockwell did well to head clear under pressure to maintain Borough's lead at the end of the first period.

HT 1-0

Two minutes after the restart Andy Coles came close when his header was cleared off the line, but Hamworthy counter attacked, the ball falling to James Johnson just outside the area and his low shot sneaked inside Andy Gunn's left post as the keeper left it to go wide.

For a short time Hamworthy had the upper hand and Andy Gunn had to make a point blank save in a packed area before Alan Fooks steadied the home nerves on 61 minutes as he latched onto a through ball and coolly placed his shot past the keeper.

Further Borough pressure lead to Tony White increasing the lead from the penalty spot after Chris Morgan was tripped in the area, and Hamworthy found themselves down to 10 men after arguing the decision. Alan Fooks then made the game safe with a shot from an acute angle, which the keeper could only parry on its way into the net, before making the final goal, whipping in a low cross from the by-line into the box where Smith arrived to divert in.

Poole Borough : Andy Gunn, Cockwell, White, Morrell, Hebdon, Coles, Alex Gunn (Gulliver 81), Herrington, Smith (Thomas 84), Fooks, Morgan (Holdroyd 67).
