3, Poole Borough (3) 5. Dorset County League Division 1 3rd February 2001 Scorers : Tony White 12 (pen);
Chris Morgan 24; Andy Coles 34; Alan Fooks 55, 90. Borough dominated the match against their local rivals from Lytchett, but the home team's ability to score on the break kept them in the game until the dying seconds. Borough started the game strongly and forced a string of corners, but found themselves a goal down after 10 minutes as Lytchett broke swiftly following a Borough free kick and took the ball down the other end and scored. Two minutes later Borough were level after Tony White converted a penalty when Chris Morgan was brought down in the area. Morgan created a further chance within a minute but his shot came back off the post and the keeper also turned an Alan Fooks header past the post. Borough thought they had taken the lead after Dave Holdroyd clearly forced the ball over the line, but with no assistance from the linesman the referee failed to give the goal, so it took a Morgan header on 24 minutes to provide the visitors with a deserved lead. Andy Coles saw a shot tipped over the bar, but on the half hour Lytchett drew level following a break down the left, with the resulting cross dispatched past Andy Gunn with a well timed header. Ten minutes before the interval, Borough again went ahead when Andy Coles volleyed home a Gary Fooks right wing cross. Before the break Andy Gunn had to save at full stretch and at the other end Scott Smith ran onto an Andy Gunn clearance but his shot went just wide of the post. HT 3-2 Borough continued to dominate and on 55 minutes Gary Fooks played a 1-2 with Scott Smith before knocking the ball into the path of Alan Fooks who slipped it past the keeper. The home keeper made some good saves from Coles, Smith and Alex Gunn as Borough looked to increase the score, but 5 minutes from time Lytchett again broke down the left wing and the resulting far post cross was converted. It was Borough who finished the game on top, creating a number of chances before, late in stoppage time Smith made enough space on the left to centre the ball to Alan Fooks to finish in the box and ensure all three points went back to Poole.
