Alan Fooks - Broke 5 game barren spell with a hat-trick |
Poole Borough (1)7, Okeford United (1)2 Dorset County League Division 1 21st October 2000 Scorers : Own Goal 8; Alex Gunn 49; Tony White 69;
Alan Fooks 70, 81, 90; Andy Coles 76. Borough finished convincing winners against Okeford United at Upton Rec, but the visitors battled well and were on even terms with Borough until 20 minutes from full time. Okeford took a surprise lead after only 3 minutes, Terry Robins converting a penalty after a push in the area, but Borough equalised 5 minutes later from an bizarre own goal, as under no pressure the visiting keeper allowed a back pass to go through his legs. The visitors were now under almost constant pressure and chances fell to Alan Fooks, Alex Gunn and Gary Fooks, but shots were not finding the target, or were well saved by the keeper, making amends for his earlier blunder. HT 1-1 Four minutes into the second period Borough took the lead when Alan Fooks latched onto a back pass and centred to provide Alex Gunn with a simple tap in. Okeford however came straight back a minute later to equalise after Andy Gunn could only parry a shot leaving Alistair Corbin to knock in the rebound. Again Borough pressure could not be converted into further goals until, with just over 20 minutes remaining, Gary Fooks was bundled over in the area and Tony White coolly converted the penalty. The game was made safe a minute later after Alex Gunn ran through and flicked the ball over the keeper before centring to Alan Fooks unmarked in the box to score, and end his 5 game barren spell. Andy Coles got on the score sheet being well placed on the goal line to chest in an Alan Fooks cross, and Alan Fooks completed his hat-trick, walking the ball over the line after being set up by Alex Gunn on 81 minutes and finishing a fine solo run past defender and keeper just on full time. The game was only marred when Dave Holdroyd sustained a serious knee injury which will keep him out of action for a number of weeks. Borough : Andy Gunn, Dan Cockwell (Ross Gulliver 84), Tony White, Pete Morrell, Sean Hebdon, Dave Holdroyd (Andy Coles 53), Gary Fooks, Dan Herrington, Alex Gunn, Alan Fooks, Chris Morgan (Mark Thomas 73). |
