0, Poole Borough (2) 5. Dorset County League Division 1 25th April 2001 Scorers : Kieron Wall 22,
54, 60; Dan Herrington 23; Alan Fooks 49. Borough cruised to victory in slippery conditions against a much-changed Shaftesbury side from he one well beaten a month ago at Upton Rec. Inside the first minute Borough could have taken the lead when Alex Gunn set up Alan Fooks' s but the striker mis-hit his shot, which went wide. Further chances fell to Pete Morrell and Alex Gunn before Borough opened the scoring on 22 minutes when Scott Smith took the ball past two defenders before knocking the ball into the path of Kieron Wall who deftly chipped his shot over the advancing keeper. A minute later Borough increased the score when Dan Herrington sent a low cross into the area from the left, which skidded off the greasy surface and eluded the keeper before sneaking inside the far post. Shaftesbury immediately forced two corners in a row, but it was still Borough who created the majority of the pressure, and the home side were fortunate to scramble a Diaz near post header off the line from a corner. Smith and Wall were both presented with chances before the break but both shot narrowly wide. HT 2-0 Within 5 minutes of the restart Borough effectively sealed victory when Wall rose to head the ball on to Fooks, in the area, who buried his shot past the keeper. After 50 minutes Borough keeper Andy Gunn had to go off, following a recurrence of his knee injury to be replaced in goal by Pete Morrell. Borough however continued to press and Wall increased the score on 54 minutes when he had time to trap deep cross from Tommy Heffernan before burying a shot into the net. Shaftesbury created a chance which was cleared by Morrell, before Wall collected his hat-trick on 60 minutes, controlling a log cross from Alex Gunn on the near post before slotting home. Wall was unfortunate not to score his fourth when he chested the ball down with his back to the goal before turning and shooting, only to see his chance hacked of the line. Smith nearly opened his account but his well struck shot cannoned off the bar. To their credit Shaftesbury continued to press as Borough sat back on their lead, but in the final exchanges, Borough again created the best chance, and from a Chris Morgan cross Andy Coles placed a header on target which the keeper did well to collect. Poole Borough : Andy Gunn (Andy Coles 50), Sean Hebdon, Tony White (Chris Morgan 74), Pete Morrell, Tommy Heffernan, Kieron Wall, Alex Gunn (Dan Cockwell 60), Dan Herrington, Tony Diaz, Alan Fooks, Scott Smith. |
