Wimborne Town (0) 1, Poole Borough (0) 1. Dorset Senior Cup 3rd Round 19th December 2000 Scorers : Alex Gunn (80) Borough came within minutes of defeating Wimborne Town in a pulsating Dorset Senior Cup tie at Cuthbury only for the game to be abandoned during extra time after the floodlights failed. Wimborne dominated the opening 20 minutes but Borough defended resolutely with keeper Andy Gunn called upon to make three fine saves. As the half wore on Borough began to make more of their spells of possession, and on 25 minutes a neat interchange between Alan Fooks and Scott Smith lead to a Fooks shot which just clipped the post. The Magpies had their best chance of the half on 33 minutes when after a scramble in the penalty area the ball was somehow spooned over the bar when it would have been easier to convert. At the other end the dangerous Alex Gunn was set up on the right by Smith but saw his shot well saved. HT 0-0 The game opened up in the second half and Borough began to exploit the additional space, although Wimborne continued to attack in numbers and were held back by superb displays from Sean Hebdon and Pete Morrell in the centre of defence. It was Borough who took the lead with 10 minutes to go as Smith again found Alex Gunn in the right and although his first shot was blocked, the second was deflected over the keeper before dropping into the net. Borough held out until, with a minute of normal time remaining, Wimborne were awarded a direct free-kick just outside the area which Darren Powell struck well just inside the right hand post and in injury time Andy Gunn kept Borough in the game with an excellent double save. Both sides created chances in the first 10 minutes of extra time before the lights went out, leaving them to return to Cuthbury to do it all again.
