On 20 minutes, a defensive mix up allowed Beaminster in with a chance on goal, but Dan Burton got out quickly and the forward's shot went over the bar. Alan Fooks had a good chance to open the scoring on 37 minutes after breaking through the visitors defence but the 'keeper did well to push him wide and the resulting shot hit the side netting. Borough were rewarded for their pressure 3 minutes from the interval when Dan Herrington collected a loose ball wide on the left and crossed to the far post for Smith to head home - the goal being awarded despite Beaminster complaints that their centre-half was down injured in the area. HT 1-0 Smith came close to increasing the lead immediately after the restart as be blasted the ball wide after the 'keeper dropped an Alex Gunn cross, but he made amends a minute later as he knocked a great ball into the path of Matt Bircumshaw who gave himself enough space before slotting the ball past the 'keeper. Borough, however, needed only four minutes to re-establish the difference when Will Owen dribbled the ball into the box before it was knocked away from him, but it fell kindly for Smith who placed his shot in the corner. Smith collected his hat-trick two minutes later, as he latched onto a through ball before dispatching a superb lob over the keeper. Beaminster pulled a goal back inside the last 10 minutes with a long shot which Burton tipped onto the bar before it dropped over the line.
