Poole Borough (2) 5, Cobham Sports Reserves (0)0. Dorset County League Division 1 Saturday 24th November 2001 Scorers : A.Fooks
24, 29, 47; Wall 54 (pen); Gunn 82. Borough cruised to a home victory against local rivals Cobham Sports Reserves with player-coach Alan Fooks collecting his 2nd hat-trick of the season. The Turlin Moor side created early chances for strikers Alan Fooks and Alex Gunn but the visitor's keeper saved both attempts well. Cobham were quick in the break but two attempt just after the quarter hour mark resulted in chances going over the bar. On 23 minutes, Alan Fooks put a close range shot over the bar after being set up by son Gary, but made no mistake a minute later, running on to a high cross in the area and knocking the ball past the keeper before following up to bundle it over the line. Five minutes later Fooks got his second, as Dan heading sent in a perfect centre from the left, and the veteran striker was on hand to place a header past the keeper. Fooks was only denied a first half hat-trick when the keeper made a flying save to push a well struck shot past the post and another well taken save also denied Herrington just before the interval. HT 2-0 With only two minutes of the second half gone, Fooks collected his hat trick, when a back pass was knocked into his path and he casually converted from 10 yards out. Constant pressure lead to Borough's fourth on 54 minutes, with Kieron Wall converting from the penalty spot after Gunn was up-ended as he closed in on goal. With the game wrapped up, Borough were able to make a couple of substitutions but continued to pressure, although Cobham also created some chances and Dan Burton was made to work to earn his clean sheet. Ten minutes from time, Gunn scored a deserved goal against his former club, running on to a through pass and coolly sliding the ball past the keeper to seal Borough's 12th win and maintain their unbeaten record this season. Borough: Dan Burton, Jimmy Edwards, Dan Herrington, Kieron Wall, Sean Hebdon (Jamie Townsend 70), Craig Shanley, Alex Gunn, Matt Bircumshaw, Paul Getley (Sean Clarke 64), Alan Fooks, Gary Fooks. |
