Borough Man of the Match :
Andy Coles

Borough played the first half in unrelenting drizzle and with a strong wind behind them. Despite most of the play being in the home half it was 25 minutes before Borough opened the scoring. Paul Getley headed on a long ball and Scott Smith turned and volleyed into the far corner of the net.

Within two minutes the same two players combined well to allow Alan Fooks to score from close range. Getley again produced a fine cross on 34 minutes, which the Sports keeper could not hold, and Gary Fooks was on hand to net.

Richie Atherton then injured a knee and new-signing Mark Reeks came on for his debut. In the last minute of the first half another Getley cross was cleared to Andy Coles who scored with a shot from the edge of the area.

HT 0-4

Borough scored three further goals in the first ten minutes of the second half to put the game beyond doubt. Smith netted from close range on 48 minutes after a Gunn cross, then 4 minutes later Smith set up Coles for his second goal. After 55 minutes Symes cleverly beat his marker and from his cross Getley scored.

Burton was called into action when he safely held a free-kick but Sports did manage to score after 70 minutes when a forward broke through to slot the ball past the advancing keeper. The home side added a second with ten minutes remaining with a similar goal after a static Borough defence allowed a striker to run past them.

In the remaining minutes Borough wasted a number of chances to increase their lead but at the final whistle were happy with the three points and a return to form after dropping points in their previous two games.

Borough - Dan Burton, Andy Coles (Criag Shanley 68), Richie Atherton (Mark Reeks 37), Kieron Wall, Paul Getley, Sean Clark, Lee Symes (Dan Herrington 62), Alex Gunn, Scott Smith, Alan Fooks, Gary Fooks.
