Dorset County League Division 1
Saturday 9th March

Scorers : Gary Fooks 12 (pen); Scott Smith 17, 44; Mark Reeks 66; Sean Hebdon 80.
Borough Man of The Match : Henry Simpson

Striker Scott Smith scored twice in the first half as Borough moved closer to the Dorset League championship with a convincing win at Turlin Moor.

The game was affected by a strong wind blowing across the pitch, but both sides had early chances, Gary Fooks hit a superb 35 yard which cannoned back off the post in the second minute, and at the other end Dan Burton diverted the ball past the post after a forward broke through.

Borough took the lead on 12 minutes when a cross was handled in the area and Gary Fooks stepped up to place a perfect penalty low into the bottom corner. Scott Smith’s first goal came on 17 minutes when he stole into the box to head home after Mark Reeks had nodded on an Alan Fooks corner.

The visiting keeper made a superb double save from Alex Gunn and Smith on 25 minutes, but just before the interval Borough got the third when Paul Getley made space on the right wing before squaring to Smith, whose shot curled inside the post.

HT 3-0

The second period saw sustained Borough pressure with Dorchester still looking to pull a goal back on the break. The deadlock was broken on the 66th minute as Reeks recorded his first goal for the Hornets, latching on to a clearance to shoot into the top corner.

Sean Hebdon, returning from a recurring hamstring strain, was in the thick of the action and defended well to block a Dorchester attack. With 10 minutes remaining Hebdon completed the scoring, combining well with Kieron Wall on the edge of the area before getting to the by-line and sending in a low cross, which took a deflection from a defender before crossing the line.

Borough - Dan Burton, Andy Coles, Mark Reeks (Dan Herrington 66), Kieron Wall, Henry Simpson, Craig Shanley, Paul Getley, Alex Gunn, Scott Smith (Sean Hebdon 58), Alan Fooks, Gary Fooks (Shaun Clarke 69).
