Poole Borough (4) 5, Dorchester United (0) 1. Dorset County League Division 1 Saturday 13th October 2001 Scorers : Kieron
Wall 5; Dan Herrington 36, 40; Scott Smith 37, 63. (This result was expunged had has to be replayed after Borough were found guilty of for fielding an ineligable player) Borough inflicted the first league defeat on Dorchester and extended their own winning sequence to nine wins out of nine since the start of the season. Dorchester were a much tougher test than previous opponents and the opening minutes were played at a fast pace. Borough again scored an early goal, this time Kieron Wall was on hand to head home from close range after a Heffernan free-kick was headed against his own bar by a Dorchester defender. The visitors then pushed forward and the Borough defence was put under pressure. Dan Burton tipped away a free-kick for a corner and Kieron Wall made a good tackle to deny an attacker. Borough also created chances and forced a number of corners. Having conceeded the first goal from a free-kick, Dorchester failed to learn their lesson and another infringement on the edge of the area allowed Dan Herrington to fire a low shot through the wall to score in the 36th minute. Four minutes later the same player cheekily took a quick free-kick and curled the ball into the top corner whilst the Dorchester keeper was otherwise engaged in organising his defensive wall. In between, Scott Smith had rounded the keeper and a defender to score from a narrow angle. Three goals in five minutes had put surely put the result beyond doubt. In the final minutes of the first half Dan Burton again pulled off a flying save to deny Dorchester a goal. HT 4-0 Dorchester did pull a goal back straight after the interval when Martin Hillier cut in from the left and hit a low shot which went in off a post, but just after the hour Scott Smith scored his second and Boroughs fifth when he volleyed in a pass from Wall. New signing Sean Clark came on to make his debut and twice came close to scoring, firstly with a header and then with a run and shot which went just wide. Smith had further chances cleared off the line as Borough dominated in the last quarter.
