Borough Scorers : Matt Bircumshaw 10, Tommy Heffernan 39.
Borough Man of the Match : Gary Fooks

Borough fell to their first league defeat of the season after they allowed a two goal first half lead to slip and they went down 3-2 at Gillingham Reserves.

The visitors made the perfect start on 10 minutes when Lee Symes, got to the left touchline before pulling the back to Matt Bircumshaw to hammer home. It was evident, however that Borough were struggling to adapt to a heavy, bumpy pitch which disrupted their passing football, and at times Gillingham were stretching them at the back.

The home side's best chance of the half came on 24 minutes when Dan Burton was forced to parry a long-range shot and though a Gillingham forward was first to the rebound, he put his shot over the bar.

Borough, however, looked to be cruising when Tommy Heffernan scored the second from a quickly taken free-kick five minutes from half time, wrong footing the keeper, who was still lining up his wall.

HT 0-2

Gillingham pulled a goal back after only 3 minutes of the restart when their forward broke through the Borough defence to slot the ball past Burton. Kieron Wall was unfortunate to see his well-placed header from a free-kick save by the keeper, but at the other end Burton made amends after his poor clearance was blocked by bravely smothering the rebound

Borough continued to weather some sustained home attacks before, on 70 minutes, the Gillngham deservedly drew level, when the defence failed to clear the ball in the area and it fell kindly to a forward on the right to convert.

Worse was to come only a minute later, when a shot from outside the area curled past a despairing dive from Dan Burton and Gillingham were ahead.

Borough pushed Kieron Wall forward in a desperate attempt to salvage a point and created a succession of chances, but the closest they came was when an Alan Fooks shot cannoned back off the post, and Borough went down to their first league defeat in 29 games.
