Borough Man of The Match :
Gary Fooks

Borough had to battle to progress in the Dorset Division 1 Cup, as Gillingham Reserves provided a stern test for the league champions at Turlin Moor.

Gillingham had the best of the early exchanges and Borough keeper Dan Burton did well to push a long range shot past the post. Borough began to create openings as the half progressed, and on 20 minutes Kieron Wall was unfortunate to see his header from a corner cleared off the line.

Further chances fell to Sean Hebdon and Scott Smith, but just as it looked like the teams would turn around level, a Borough attach was only cleared as far as Dan Herrington 35 yards out on the left, and he struck a superb drive into the top corner.

HT 1-0

The second period started like the first, with Gillingham creating some early pressure, but Scott Smith came close for Borough when his near post header from an Alan Fooks cross went just the wrong side of the post.

Gillingham still looked dangerous on the break, and from a counter attack Burton brought down a visiting forward as he ran into the area, but made amends as he dived low to his left to block the resulting penalty.

This was the signal for Borough to lay siege to the visitors goal. Alan Fooks just failed to chip the advancing keeper and Smith was unfortunate to see one shot hacked off the line while another strike cannon off the bar.

The Hornets finally sealed the tie 10 minutes from the end when Sean Hebdon ran onto a through ball and though his first attempt came back off the keepers legs, he collected the rebound to convert, and set the Hornets up with a semi-final tie at Hamworthy Reserves.

Borough - Dan Burton, Jimmy Edwards, Dan Herrington (Lee Symes 67), Kieron Wall (Shaun Clarke 85), Henry Simpson (Craig Shanley 55), Sean Hebdon, Alex Gunn , Matt Bircumshaw, Scott Smith, Alan Fooks, Gary Fooks.
