Borough Man of The Match : Kieron Wall

Borough moved closer to lifting the Dorset Division 1 title after securing victory in the derby game at Hamworthy Reserves. However the Hornets left it late to overcome their local rivals, Kieron Wall opening the scoring with only five minutes remaining and further strikes from Scott Smith and Alan Fooks somewhat flattered the visitors.

The first half saw a lacklustre performance from Borough, with their closest chance coming on 26 minutes from defender Sean Hebdon whose header was cleared off the line. Dan Burton was called into action 10 minutes later as he pushed a long range effort past the post. A Hamworthy forward should have done better with a clear header which was straight at Burton.

Borough stepped up the pressure just before the break and Wall saw a header pushed past the post.

HT 0-0

Borough looked livelier in the second period they still struggled to break down the Hammers in the last third of the pitch. Hamworthy were reduced to 10 men on 65 minutes after a late tackle on Andy Coles, but this didn't seem to affect the home sides ability to break down Borough's attacks.

Everything changed however, with 10 minutes remaining, when Pete Morrell switched Wall from centre half to the forward line, and immediately the big man created alarm in a previously resolute home defence. The all-important goal came after Smith latched onto a Fooks through pass, drew the keeper and squared to Wall who hammered the ball home.

A minute later the game was safe as a long ball into the area was met by Smith who steered his header past the home keeper. With the referee playing over 10 minutes of injury time due to a secession of second-half stoppages, Fooks, playing in his 100th game for Borough, rounded off the win with a tap in after Smith again got behind the home defence before setting up his strike partner.
