Lytchett Red Triangle (0)
2, Poole Borough (2) 4. Dorset County League Division 1 Saturday 17th November 2001 Scorers : Gunn 27,
Wall 29, Owen 58, A.Fooks 89. Borough produced a workman like performance to record a 4-2 win in the local derby at Lytchett Red Triangle, but the home side kept the league leaders under pressure until the last minute before victory was finally secured. Lytchett created two early chances which both went narrowly wide, but as the half progressed Borough began to take control and the home keeper had to save twice with his legs from Dan Herrington and Kieron Wall. The visitors finally took the lead on the half hour when a Herrington left wing cross alluded the keeper and Alex Gunn was at the far post to chest the ball over the line. Two minutes later Borough increased their lead when Wall arrived in the box unmarked to head in a Tommy Heffernan free kick. HT 0-2 Borough continued to pressure in the second period but were unable to increase their lead, despite chances falling to Alan Fooks and Gunn which were both licked off the line. The complexion of the game changed with 20 minutes remaining when Lytchett pulled a goal back after Borough keeper Dan Burton lost out in a challenge for the ball wide on the right and it was centred for a Paul Ballett to convert. Will Owen restored Borough's two goal lead 5 minutes later with a 20 yard drive which took a wicked deflection, and the home keeper kept his side in the match on 78 minutes with a fine one handed save from a well struck Bircumshaw shot, but Lytchett again pulled a goal back on 82 minutes through Darren Banyard after breaking quickly from defence following a Borough corner. The last few minutes saw some desperate Borough defending as the home side pushed forward looking for an equaliser, but Alan Fooks calmed visitors nerves in when he ran on to a Gary Fooks through pass and coolly lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to seal their 12th win of the season. Borough: Dan Burton, Will Owen, Dan Herrington, Kieron Wall, Tommy Heffernan, Sean Hebdon (Craig Shanley 75), Alex Gunn, Matt Bircumshaw, Paul Getley (Sean Clark 79), Alan Fooks, Gary Fooks. Unused sub: Lee Atkins. |
