Poole Borough (3) 6, Lytchett Red Triangle (0) 0. Dorset County League Division 1 Saturday 5th January 2002 Borough Scorers : Alan
Fooks 5, 71; Scott Smith 17, 49, 63; Matt Bircumshaw 23. Striker Scott Smith scored his third hat-trick of the season and Alan Fooks got two as Borough dominated the game from start to finish to register a 6-0 home win against local rivals Lytchett Red Triangle. The home sideopened the scoring after 5 minutes when Lee Symes, making his home debut, sent over a perfect cross and Alan Fooks rose above the visiting keeper to head home. The result was never in doubt after Smith scored the second 10 minutes later, latching onto a through ball before dispatching a low shot past the keeper. Matt Bircumshaw shot over the bar on 22 minutes, but made no mistake a minute later after Alex Gunn got past 2 players on the right wing and crossed for the midfielder to head home. It was now one way traffic and Sean Clarke nearly scored his first for Borough when he hit a low shot from 30 yards out which beat the keeper but came back off the post. Just before the break Bircumshaw chipped the keeper from the edge of the area, but he saw hit attempt hit the bar. HT 3-0 The second period continued with sustained Borough pressure and Smith increased the score on 49 minutes, steeling into the area to convert a low cross from Symes. Gary Fooks was unfortunate when his shot from another Symes cross cannoned off the keepers legs. With Tommy Heffernan returning to the centre of the home defence to partner Kieron Wall, Borough were never troubled at the back and Smith completed his hat-trick on 63 minutes when he picked up a loose ball in the area to score from a narrow angle. Alan Fooks completed the scoring, rising unmarked to head a Gunn centre into the top corner. Further chances were created and Smith was unfortunate to see an attempt kicked off the line after beating the keeper, and Gunn also had a shot saved by the keepers legs. Just before time Gary Fooks was brought down in the area, but Tommy Heffernan's spot kick went wide.
