Portland United Reserves (0) 0, Poole Borough (0) 2, Dorset County League Division 1 Saturday 2nd March Scorers : Scott Smith 47,
Alan Fooks 61. A full match report will appear here Poole Borough put their Dorset League title hopes firmly back on track when the strike partnership of Scott Smith and Alan Fooks scored a goal each to secure a 2-0 away victory at fourth placed Portland Reserves, the side who had picked up a point at Turlin Moor the previous week. Borough struggled to control the game in the first half against a good young Portland side, their best chance falling to Alex Gunn who saw his shot pushed past the post. Manager Pete Morrells half-time talk obviously did the trick, and the Hornets came out a different side, immediately taking the lead when a Mark Reeks shot was blocked by the keeper and Smith was first to the rebound and lashed the ball home from a narrow angle. Defender Henry Simpson nearly increased the lead with a bullet header from a corner which crashed back off the crossbar, but Portland were still dangerous on the break and put two chances narrowly wide. Borough's second came on 61 minutes when Gunn sent a low cross into Fooks, who rode a tackle before deftly lifting the ball over the advancing keeper. Portland pushed forward looking to get back into the game but the pressure was soaked up well by Simpson and defensive partner Kieron Wall, and with the game opening up Borough were only denied further goals by the home keeper who made two point blank saves against Jimmy Edwards. The win leaves Borough needing 12 points from the last 6 games to secure the title. Borough - Dan Burton, Jimmy Edwards, Mark Reeks, Kieron Wall, Henry Simpson, Craig Shanley, Paul Getley (Shaun Clarke 88), Alex Gunn, Scott Smith, Alan Fooks, Gary Fooks.
