A hat-trick from Tommy Heffernan and Alan Fooks' 100th career goal for Poole Borough were the highlights of a convincing 6-1 win at Shaftesbury Reserves.

Borough took time to settle on a bumpy pitch and Shaftesbury had the better of the earlier exchanges. Dan Burton did well to deny the home side a goal when he dived at the feet of an opposing forward, but was helpless when Shaftesbury took a deserved lead after 15 minutes with a well-taken goal.

Borough worked hard to get back into the game and the equaliser came on the half-hour when Kieron Wall rose to head home from close range. A minute later Gary Fooks volleyed home from 25 yards to give Borough the lead and they went two goals up when, three minutes before the break, Tommy Heffernan ran into the Shaftesbury half and beat the keeper with a tremendous 30 yard shot into the top corner.

The second-half was only two minutes old when a Shaftesbury defender handled in the area and Heffernan scored from the spot. There was an escape for Borough when Shanley was dispossessed but the Shaftesbury forward saw his shot hit the post.

With 5 minutes remaining, Alan Fooks got his head to Heffernan's well-flighted free-kick to score his 100th goal for Borough in 84 games. Heffernan completed his hat-trick a minute from time with another penalty kick after the referee spotted another handball.
