Borough Man of The Match : Gary Fooks

Borough lined up with an unchanged starting eleven up for the third game running and chalked up a convincing win against last seasons Division 2 champions, Sturminster Marshall.

An early chance fell to Alex Gunn, whose header from an Alan Fooks cross went just wide, but at the other end Gary Fooks had to produce a spectacular goal-line clearance as the home side had a share of the initial exchanges.

On 15 minutes Gunn was again unfortunate as he was unable to force an Alan Fooks centre over the line, but Borough took the lead 3 minutes later, when a Herrington left win cross found Scott Smith just outside the area and his shot took a deflection, wrong footing the keeper on its way in.

The goal gave Borough the impetus they needed to push forward, and Matt Bircumshaw saw his 25th minute shot turned round the post. A minute later the visitors increased their lead, as Smith saw the ball returned to his feet after an initial shot was kicked off the line, and he unselfishly slid a pass to his left for Alan Fooks to shoot home.

The young Sturminster side continued to push forward and Dan Burton did well to save low down to his left as the home side broke through the Borough defence. At the other end from a corner Smith had another shot kicked off the line and Kieron Wall put the rebound just wide.

HT 2-0

Burton was in action again just after the restart, as he had to react quickly to save at the striker's feet. The majority of the game however remained one way and Dan Herrington saw a long range shot come back off the bottom of the post.

Borough produced a superb move on 60 minutes for their third goal as Herrington brought the ball forward from the half way line before knocking a pass wide to Gunn whose low first time cross was converted by Alan Fooks.

Matt Bircumshaw got his name on the scoresheet on 70 minutes as he met a Gunn cross with a well placed header, and Wall completed the scoring on 31 minutes when an Alan Fooks corner dropped to his feet in the edge of the box and he duly blasted home his shot
