Borough's strike partnership of Scott Smith and Alan Fooks plundered a hat trick each as the Hornets recorded a 9-1 victory away to Dorset Division 1 newcomers Weymouth Consignia.

There was no indication in the first period that Borough would amass such a high score and they had to work hard to break through a packed Weymouth defence. On the 1/2 hour Dan Herrington saw a long-range shot pushed past the post by the keeper, and Alex Gunn was unlucky when he steered an Alan Fooks goalwards but the ball came back off the post.

With 5 minutes remaining of the half Gary Fooks had to be replaced by Chris Morgan, after he sustained a leg injury following a tackle from behind. Morgan immediately made his mark and he was pulled back after going past his man on the left wing. Herrington took the resulting free kick and as the ball dropped into the 6-yard box, Smith stole in on the far post to head over the line.

HT 0-1

Matt Bircumshaw increased the lead 6 minutes after the restart when he was first to the ball after the home keeper punched clear and rifled home. Borough's third came from Tommy Heffernan when he sent in a cross which the keeper allowed to slip through his hands and drop over the line.

On 61 minutes Alex Gunn got to the goal line and turned the ball back to present Smith with an easy tap in. Consignia pulled a goal back on 69 minutes and also forced Dan Burton into a sharp save, but on 73 minutes Borough restored the advantage as Herrington headed a Consignia goal kick into the path of Smith, who slipped the ball to Alan Fooks to convert.

Fooks returned the favour 2 minutes later, pulling the ball back from the left for Smith to bury his shot in the right corner for his hat trick. With the home defence struggling to cope with the Borough onslaught Sean Hebdon got to the left goal line and sent a low cross to the near post where Gunn forced the ball between keeper and post.

Alan Fooks rounded of with two goals in as many minutes to complete his hat-trick, the first running onto a Will Owen through ball to shoot past the keeper and second a similar goal with Smith this time the provider.

Borough : Burton, Owen, Herrington (North 76), Wall, Hebdon, Heffernan, Gunn, Bircumshaw (Cockwell 70), Smith, Alan Fooks, Gary Fooks (Morgan 42).
