Dorset County League Division 1 Saturday 16th March Scorers : Jimmy Edwards 20, 50, 61; Alan Fooks 28, 81; Alex Gunn 18; Herrington 63; Kieron Wall 68; Scott Smith 74. Borough Man of The Match : Jimmy Edwards A large crowd at Turlin Moor saw Borough provide with an excellent display of attacking football as they delivered an emphatic 9-0 victory against Weymouth Consignia. Alan Fooks netted his 100th league goal for Borough and midfielder Jimmy Edwards plundered a hat-trick as the Hornets moved one step closer to their first Dorset League Championship. An early chance fell to Alex Gunn whose shot was deflected over the bar, but on 18 minutes Gunn opened the scoring when he collected a left wing cross from Scott Smith and made space before shooting home. Edwards got his first two minutes later with a goal line tap after Smith again pulled the ball back from the by-line and on 28 minutes Alan Fooks reached his century after he capitalised on a defensive error to collect the loose a ball and run on to convert. HT 3-0 Consignia had their best spell immediately after the restart and both Sean Hebdon and Craig Shanley were forced to make good tackles. Borough, however increased the score after Kieron Wall cleared a Consignia corner, and after a neat interchange between Fooks and Smith the ball was collected in the area by Edwards who skipped past a defender before slotting the ball home. Edwards completed his hat-trick after a Gunn shot was palmed away by the keeper and the midfielder was on hand to tuck away the rebound. On 63 minutes Dan Herrington scored the goal of the game as he ran through from the half way line before unleashing a drive, which went in off the post. With the visitors defence frequently overrun the goal tally was increased by Wall as he rose at the far post to head in a Herrington corner, and the eighth goal came when Mark Reeks broke through and unselfishly squared to Smith who steered the ball into an empty net. Fooks completed the scoring with Smith again the provider, crossing the ball for the veteran striker to lift a shot over the keeper and leave Borough requiring four points from their last four games to lift the title. Borough - Dan Burton, Shaun Clarke (Andy Coles 63), Dan Herrington, Kieron Wall, Sean Hebdon, Craig Shanley (Mark Reeks 67), Paul Getley (Ben Aldous 51), Alex Gunn, Scott Smith, Alan Fooks, Jimmy Edwards. |
