After finishing runners up in the last two seasons, Poole Borough deservedly lifted the Dorset Division 1 title after a convincing 4-0 victory against Weymouth United at Turlin Moor.

Borough opened brightly and when Scott Smith put Gary Fooks through after 5 minutes, but he elected to pass instead of shoot, and the chance was cleared. Gary put Alan Fooks through soon after but the resulting shot came back off the visiting keeper's legs.

There was a let off for Borough on 15 minutes when Weymouth broke through and the resulting shot cannoned off the bar whilst a shot from the rebound went agonisingly wide. However the Hornets came straight back, and a Sean Hebdon header was cleared off he line before a superb passing move involving six players culminated with Dan Herrington sending in a low cross from the left and Jimmy Edwards nipped in front of the keeper to tuck the ball home.

Dan Burton was in the action as he blocked a Weymouth shot with his legs after the visitors broke through, but Borough increased the lead 10 minutes before the break with Herrington was again provider, sending over a well flighted free kick and Kieron Wall rose unmarked at the far post to head in.

Immediately after the break Scott Smith got the third, when he latched onto a long clearance from Burton and lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper.

It was fitting that the final goal to seal the title came from Alan Fooks, who has played in every game in the Hornets last three seasons, as he collected on to a through ball before steering his shot low into the corner of the net.

Pete Morrell brought all three substitutes on and although creating further changes for Lee Symes and Matt Bircumshaw, Borough were playing out time and the final whistle signalled the start of the long awaited celebrations.
