Borough Man of The Match : Alex Gunn

In an eleven goal thriller at Chapel Gate, Borough ended their run of three successive defeats with a hard fought victory against Bournemouth Sports, withAlan Fooks, returning to cover an injury crises, hiting his second hat-trick of the season. But in an end to end encounter Sports remarkably came back from a 4-1 half time deficit to draw level within 10 minutes of the restart, and further chances were created by both sides before the Hornets finally secured all three points.

Sports took the lead inside the first minute from a Kevin Collins tap in, but Borough equalised only two minutes later, after Fooks converted an Alex Gunn cross, and took the lead on 10 minutes with a superb Matt Bircumshaw strike from outside the area.

Sports saw two chances cleared off the line by Sean Hebdon and Craig Shanley before Borough went further ahead after Danny Flooks, starting his first game for Borough, latched onto a through ball from James Edwards and coolly steered the ball home.

Borough looked to be cruising on the half hour when Fooks was quick to convert the rebound after the home keeper blocked his initial shot at close range, but it was ominous for the Hornets when central defender Sean Hebdon had to be replaced 10 minutes from the interval.

HT 1-4

The young Sports side however showed great character as they came out from the interval and stunned Borough with three goals in six minutes, Graham Dean bundling home a corner on 49 minutes, Jono Martin scoring direct from a free kick two minutes later and Ben Osborne latched on to a poor pass to run through the Borough defence and equalise on 55 minutes.

With both sides committing to attack it was Borough who the lead again on 71 minutes when Dan Herrington latched on to a low corner at the near post. But Paul Maitland in the visitors goal had to save with his legs before

Jamie Wilson increased the Hornet’s lead with a dipping shot which dropped over the home keeper and Fooks made sure of victory 15 minutes from time directing home a left wing cross.

Manager's Quotes..........

Winning manager Peter Morrell said: "After conceding a goal in the first 30 seconds we really cruised the first half. We worked hard and played some really good football and I said to them during the interval to make sure that we did not concede an early goal. But within ten minutes of the second period they managed to get back level. At that point it was then time to rip up the half-time team talk. "At 4-4 it was clear that whoever scored the next goal would probably go on and win. It was an interesting game and I said to my players afterwards that I was glad they listened to my half-time chat - they all cracked up laughing."

Sports' boss Mike Buxton said: "Call me the entertainer - I am not a happy man at the moment. At half-time we were 4-1 down and I said to the lads that they had proved to me that they were not good enough. I then told them to go out there and show a bit of pride in the second period and within ten minutes of the restart it was 4-4. "There was only one team at that stage who was going to win it. However, what I have done now is burned our goalkeeping jersey because no matter who wears it they always end up throwing one in. "I have to fault our keeper for their next two goals - one went under his body and for the other he was lobbed from 30 yards. I am disappointed with the result and I have called a players' meeting for this week - we have got to grow up quick."
