Borough Man of The Match : James Edwards

Borough slipped to a second away defeat but this was a much-improved performance on that at Gillingham and they were unlucky not to have got something out of the game.

Bridport opened strongly and former Weymouth striker Martin Underhay, making his debut for Bridport, was put clear in the 4th minute but his shot hit the post. Maitland was then forced to palm away a corner before Borough replied with a James Edwards shot from 25 yards that skimmed the Bridport bar.

Bridport took the lead in the 17th minute when a shot from Underhay that Maitland looked to have covered, unfortunately deflected off Mark Reeks' leg and left the keeper stranded. Borough then had a spell when they were well on top but could not force an equaliser. The best chances fell to Gunn, who shot over after a good piece of possession football by Borough, and then Scott Smith's close range header from a corner that was scrambled away.

HT 0-1

Borough were still on top at the start of the second half with both Kieron Wall and Matt Bircumshaw going close. However in the 62nd minute, to the disbelief of the Borough camp, the referee awarded Bridport a penalty when a forward slipped in the area. Defender Steve Smith gratefully accepted the gift and blasted the spot-kick past Maitland.

Worse was to follow for Borough when minutes later, Sean Leaton was given a second yellow card and dismissed. Pete Morrell then substituted JamieTownsend for Scott Arnold and pushed Wall up front in an effort to get back on terms but it was Bridport who scored again in the 82nd minute when Lock headed home from a corner.

Borough : Paul Maitland, James Edwards, Mark Reeks, Shaun Clarke (Dan Herrington 82), Sean Leaton, Kieron Wall, Alex Gunn (James Morrell 82), Matt Bircumshaw, Scott Smith, Scott Arnold (Jamie Townsend 68), Danny Saxby.
