Hamworthy Recreation (2) 3, Poole Borough (1) 3. Elite Teamwear Dorset Premier League Saturday 11th January 2003 Recreation Scorers :
Darren Moores 14, Mike Notley 43, Crispin Rigler 51. Borough came back from a two goal second half deficit to earn a well deserved draw in a highly entertaining local derby in front of a big crowd at Hamworthy Recreation. The home side had the best of the early exchanges and Crispin Rigler looked sure to score in the sixth minute as he cut in from the left and took the ball past three players, but having made space for a shot his chance went wide. Recreation took the lead 5 minutes later after breaking down the left, with Darren Moores rising at the far post to head home the resulting cross. Kevin Leonard in the home goal had to save with his legs from Alan Fooks as the Hornets immediately looked for a way back and Recreation were forced back as with further chances fell to Paul Getley and Alan Fooks, but at the other end the normally lethal Rigler found his scoring touch allude him again as he missed another clear chance on the break. On 38 minutes Leonard pulled off another superb save to block a point blank header from Scott Arnold but Recreation increased their lead against the run of play when Mike Notley broke on the left and cut inside before firing a dipping shot over Paul Maitland in the visitors goal. Just before the break Borough brought themselves back in the game as Scott Smith arrived unmarked to head home an Alan Fooks free kick. Borough came close to equalising immediately after the interval as Alan Fooks just failed to steer home a low cross from Arnold, but Recreation restored their two goal lead on 51 minutes, when Rigler made no mistake capitalising on a defensive mistake and run through and score. The Hornets, however again pulled a goal back four minutes later as the Hamworthy defence failed to clear a free kick in the area and Smith dispatched the loose ball. The visitors continued to push Recreation back and were awarded a penalty on 60 minutes as Gary Fooks was upended just inside the area, the midfielder stepping up himself to put Borough level. Further Hornets pressure saw Smith denied his hat-trick after Leonard made another superb block, however the veteran keeper was beaten by a long range drive from Arnold, but the shot flew inches wide. With time running out Recreation boss Pat Notley made a double substitution which brought his side back into the game and Borough were forced to defend in depth to secure a well earned point, the fourth plundered from the reigning champions this season. Borough : Maitland, Shanley (Clarke 46), White, Hebdon, Getley, Wilson (Milne 85), Gunn (Herrington 82), Arnold, Smith, A.Fooks, G.Fooks. |
