Borough Man of The Match : Sean Hebdon

Borough were once again unable to transfer their good home form on their travels as they fell to a Simon Landers brace in a 2-0 defeat at Wareham Rangers.

Borough created early chances for Scott Smith and Scott Arnold but both forwards shot narrowly wide. On 14 minutes the Hornets were unfortunate not to take the lead when a long shot from James Edwards came back of the bar, and Matt Bircumshaw did well to get to the rebound, but headed over.

Smith also went close with a header from an Alan Fooks free-kick, but Wareham were creating problems on the break, and took the lead on 25 minutes when Darren Mears broke away on the left and Landers latched on to the resulting cross to steer the ball home.

Borough struggled to break through a resolute home defence and when Bircumshaw did find space on the right to send in a low cross Smith was denied by a well timed tackle. Although the home side finished the first period the stronger, going close twice, Gary Fooks was unfortunate not to equalise just before the break with a well struck shot destined for the top left hand corner which the home keeper did well to get a hand to.

HT 1-0

Borough started the second half more positively, pushing forward in numbers, but still had problems getting past the home back line. This provided Wareham with opportunities on the counter attack and Adam Nash kept the Hornets in the game as he saved well with his legs while Sean Hebdon and Shaun Clarke also executed well timed tackles.

Into the last 20 minutes Borough began to mount sustained pressure and Tony White came within a whisker of putting the Hornets level 10 minutes from time when he collected a short corner and sent over a dipping shot which cannoned off the bar.

Almost immediately Wareham sealed their win as they launched a quick free kick from the half way line into the area and Landers arrived in front of Nash to tuck the ball home and consign Borough to their ninth away defeat of the season.

Borough : Adam Nash, Shaun Clarke, Tony White, Sean Hebdon, Jamie Wilson (James Morrell 85), Scott Arnold (Aaron Woldon 86), Matt Bircumshaw, James Edwards, Scott Smith, Alan Fooks (Dan Herrington 67), Gary Fooks.

Manager's Quotes..........

Winners manager Steve Pryor said: "It was a good win. We got off to a sluggish start and they hit the bar. Apart from that they did not really trouble our keeper Jimmy Hollywood. Saying that, our goal did come a little bit against the run of play"
