Borough went out of the Dorset Senior Cup at the 1st Round stage for the first time in their history, after leading 3-1 with 10 minutes remaining at Wareham they conceded three goals to be knocked out deep in injury time.

In a scrappy first half, the home side had the better of the first 20 minutes and it was only some bad finishing stopped them from taking the lead. Borough began to look more effective as the half progressed and took the lead on 32 minutes when Dan Herrington sent in a deep corner, which Scott Smith, at the far post, nodded back across the goal mouth and Mark Reeks was on hand to head the ball over the line.

HT 0-1

Wareham opened the second period on top and pulled level on 59 minutes as the ball was dispatched after Borough were unable to clear a corner. Injuries forced Borough to bring on two subs early in the half, but the goal woke them up and they created a prolonged period of sustained pressure with Smith looking dangerous as he made a series of breaks through the home defence.

On 78 minutes Borough went ahead as Alex Gunn cut inside from the by-line and rode a tackle before knocking the ball back to Shaun Clarke whose shot was pushed onto the post by the home keeper, but Gunn first to the ball and dispatched the rebound. Two minutes later Clarke increased the lead with a bullet header from a James Edwards corner.

Wareham, however fought their way back pulling a goal back when a loose ball was dispatched with 7 minutes remaining and they drew level on 90 minutes as a home forward got through and slotted the ball past the advancing Paul Maitland.

With a number of earlier breaks for injuries the referee played nearly 10 minutes of injury time and in the dying minutes the Borough defence were guilty of stopping when the linesman flagged for offside, but as the ball came back out, Maitland was beaten by a 30 yard shot, and the referee dismissed the protests from Borough players and allowed the goal to stand.

Borough : Paul Maitland, James Edwards, Mark Reeks, Sean Hebdon, Dan Lomax (Shaun Clarke 55), Dan Herrington (Jamie Townsend 59), Alex Gunn, Matt Bircumshaw, Scott Smith, Danny Chappell, Gary Fooks.
